So did I, but then I saw my shadow, realized it was still way too hot, and went back in...

Become more rich, this is key to maintaining non-peasantry lifestyle.
Buy Airplane even though I can't fly one.
Decide I can now sing and bring out a mix-tape.
Have a pet tiger like them Dubai people.
Have a condo in Dubai.
Call out Drake while collecting my lottery money on live television.
Contemplate if I have been living a lie in the body of a man.
Buy an NSX.
Buy another one.
Buy an LFA.
Do other rich people things.
Donate to random charity for publicity.
Build a clothing line.

How many people here can honestly say that a Twin is their complete and total dream car and there is nothing else they would have got instead if they had $1 million cash in hand?
I'm more thinking of modifying a car for enjoyment. Someone like Magnus Walker for example, I assume could walk into a Porsche dealership and buy a new 911. But he prefers buying used ones and modifying "outlawing" them. Granted his car collection is worth a lot now. One of his more recent purchases was a Porsche 924, hardly a supercar and in one of his latest videos he was saying he's looking for a 987 Cayman. For some people modifying a car is a hobby and with a lotto win, the sky is the limit to your imagination as to what you can do. But I get your point, this example wouldn't apply to most people.

LOL, gambling is for mugs..
A few years ago my statewide newspaper did a statistical analysis and found that the biggest lottery winner is, as expected, the state. Ticket sales are the second biggest source of revenue and that's with a regressive 10% state income tax and outrageous property taxes.

Their analysis also showed that if private gaming outlets returned the same meager payout as the state, they'd be under indictment.

Soon the games will be expanded to online sports betting after our Supreme Court ruled it legal. Now we're talking, something that is predicted to have a much higher payout than numbers games but probably even more wrecked families with the ability to pay online with credit cards.

as i said before, the flaunty high end cars simply don't appeal to me. the benefit i see to winning the lottery would be expanding my garage to a manufacturing complex, and the custom fabrication i could do to alter any car the way i see fit.

the car is an outlet, not an ideal.

a lot of what i like about this car is it's low limits. higher end cars raise the limits, and while it's a different kind of fun it's not my kind of fun.

I can't find it in my google. What Australia's laws on taxing that money? Also what would the lump sum payout be?

In america, that big headline number gets whittled down really quickly.

https://www.sapling.com/7483593/calc...ottery-payment
Quote:
The stated payout level is your base amount. You will then need to subtract the amount specified by the rules for federal withholding -- typically 25% -- and also subtract any amounts due for state and local income tax withholding. The remaining amount is the total of your lump sum payment. For example, if you win $1 million, your lump sum payout is half of that, or $500,000. Federal withholding is 25% of the payout, or $125,000. If your state has a 7% income tax it will withhold that amount as well -- in this example, $35,000. The resulting lump sum payout is $340,000. If you don't want to figure it all out yourself, try using one of the free lump sum payout calculators available online.
That example is a really good reason to not bother getting a ticket for jackpots under 10 million. I for one could blow through $300k in a month given the opportunity. And nothing even exciting. Just doing boring stuff like paying off the mortgage, or getting the garage rebuilt structurally this time, or fixing my driveway, or renovating my kitchen. By the time I'd be done with all that, i might get one 7 day cruise out of what's left of the "million".

So assuming the same taxation rate and lump sum payout, the final actual cash-in-hand is closer to $67million.

Still a few good truckloads of money and enough to very comfortably retire early, but not nearly "throw money out the window" as the headlines imply.
