We have had at least 10 cars with fobs. All keep running. It is a bitch when you drop the wife off, go to do an errand and realize she has the fob in her person so you have to turn around. Even bigger bitch when you don't realize though.
No real difference than having a key in it otherwise.

I have both key fobs. One was on the key rack by the door with a dead battery so you would have to know that you put it against the start button to start the car. And my daily fob was on a workbench inside my garage. Way to far to activate it the starter. The kicker is that my dad was going to give me the pink slip for the chevelle on Sunday as a birthday gift.

It was one of your drunk brothers, or someone that they told about what they were doing that day.

they do angrily chirp at you when the door closes. it's almost the right number of syllabic chirps to "hey dumbass, you left me running"

inside the garage like where the chevelle had been parked?!?

sorry about the bad luck. the wheel issue appears relatively simple to repair with minimal problems.

your real problem is going to be the area underneath the door. that's structural, so if there's serious damage to it, most insurance companies will total the vehicle instead of repair it, because repairing a structural component and having it potentially fail later is a massive rolling liability they won't be willing to gamble on.

also up for grabs is if there's any damage underneath the car that you didn't notice. additional damage underneath wouldn't necessarily be a death knell, but could result in additional repair costs that make it easier for them to total out.

Or a pissed-off brother who wanted the car. Or the Borg.
