Is the new Gen worse than the last? I haven't driven the 2017 but I test drove several 2012/2013 (it was on my short list when I bought the 86). Admittedly it wasn't great but it was better than MomHawk's '05 Mustang convertible which is like driving with blinders on when the top is up. I really didn't think it was much different than the 86.

Actually it is much better but still feels claustrophobic for being such a "large" car. The belt line is still too high for my tastes and the windows are like looking through the slits in a tank. Over all the car is far better in this gen but it is just not where I would want it to be for my tastes.

Makes sense. I should go test drive one (I pass by a dealership twice a day that has probably a dozen on their "front line" and are very casual test drive friendly) but I'm afraid it will create a "need"!

I drove one that a guy at the cottage had just bought. Overall very nice but there is not a hope in hell I would ever be able to use all that power for my daily drives. Gross overkill for a commuting car.

Both Mom and Dad will be 80 in a couple months. They are only a few weeks apart in age. Dad hit a pole leaving the Wendy's drive-thru a couple months ago and did $6000 damage to his truck (talk about an expensive frostie), so he has gone into "I'm too old to do anything, can't do anything for myself anymore" mode, which is depressing to watch. He is doing everything he is not supposed to do as far as diet. Since the accident he has had cataracts surgery, so now he can see the pole. He just eats too much salt, then here comes the congestive heart failure. He would be fine if he just followed Doctor's orders. What are you going to do?

Sorry to hear that. Been going through a similar situation with my father-in-law recently so I feel your pain. Best to all of your family.

Well, 80 years old is getting up there for sure.

When my Dad was 93, he pulled away from a gas station ...... with the filler hose still stuck in the car, but he wouldn't give up his car. So, my sister "borrowed" it one day ...... and just never brought it back.

My brother took all the salt out of his house and never replenished it.

Yep, we all would be better off if we just followed the Doctor's orders .....

As far as diet, my sister-in-law did his grocery shopping for him ...... so, he started to eat healthy (since his eyesight was failing, he couldn't read that the groceries didn't contain beef).

One day he tried to escape his house and drove his golf cart into town ...... the sheriff stopped him about half way into town.

As far as the "I'm too old to do anything, anymore" is a mindset. Yes, I'm too old to do a lot of things I used to do (like sweep the pine needles off the roof) ...... but that's where my son-in-law comes in. Just let it go.

Many other tasks, that used to take 1/2 a day ..... now takes me the biggest part of a week (like waxing my car) ...... the healthy mindset is "so what, I'll just leave some for tomorrow".

My father went into the hospital for the last time when he was 94, he told everyone he wanted to go home ...... and he did ...... there he died peacefully in his sleep. My Mom had passed away several years earlier.

Yep, it's tough to watch your parents decline ...... but, sometimes you just have to let them go, and let God ........

So I'm at work the other day, bored as usual, listening to the radio. This radio station, like others, is always giving things away. All I heard was "Martin" and "10th caller now", so I start dialing. Now back up, for weeks they have been giving away tickets to Steve Martin and Martin Short's comedy show.

Bam, I'm the 10th caller. Give the guy all my info, then to wrap up he says,"ok, we will be sending you the info for your Ricky Martin tickets."

What a let down.

Sounds like you have the longevity gene in your family. Unfortunately I don't. My Dad now is the longest living male that we know of on either side of the family. One of the reasons I've been saving like crazy to retire at 56.
