That's not what he's saying. The bends in the tube and the flow smoother set the maf value as well as the diameter. He said nothing about temperature.

Anything upstream or downstream can change the way the air flows through the intake, the MAF sensor only measures air passing the sensor area. If you change the snorkel, the airflow over the sensor will likely change as well. How much/little can only be determined by testing, I did some basic tests on removing various parts of the OEM intake years ago and it made quite a difference to the MAF readings.

The airbox itself helps to somewhat stabilize the atmospheric conditions that the motor breathes in. I have a k&n drop in which I may remove because the fitment is sketchy and makes it difficult to push the airbox halves together.

I have the same filter, no issues here. Did you put it in correctly? There is a proper orientation.

Yes and you are right. I believe the difference is in the thickness of the rubber lip on the k&n. I take it you installed it on your own?

Seems there are a great deal of people in here who don't know how a maf sensor works, or what it communicates to the ecu.

Might want to read through the many threads documenting intake testing and development...

I wouldn't the ECU is designed to accommodate changes to some degree, that's what the fuel trims are for.

Yeah, dropped it in myself. Everything has clicked in tight, I have even removed, cleaned, oiled and replaced it with no issues.

I'd wish for one too. I'm sure that even more resistive (but better filtering) paper filter in TRD intake should still be less resistive then OE due from it's big size/filtering area alone. Would simplify replacement, add extra trust in quality of dust filtering, and eliminate any chances of oil excess ever dirtying MAF sensor.
But given that TRD intakes make up relatively small number from all the twins out there, imho there is too little market to make very small runs of making that intake specific sized filters, so most probably there will be no choice but that oiled filter it has or it's replacements of same type.
