Spark plug change - dealership price?
Has anyone had their plugs changed up here yet? I called the local Scion dealership and they couldn't find the price. The local Subaru dealership quoted $270+tax (parts and labour). A friend looked up the flat rate book rate for the job, and it's 3.4 hours.
Based on the book rate, the Subaru dealership's price seems way too good to be true. I've read the plugs are about $20 each, which means the Subaru dealership quoted about 2 hours for labour. Seems a little optimistic for a dealership IMO. If you have had yours swapped, what dealership did it?

For $270, hurry up and get it done!
Ive been getting coil pack related CELs lately, and they quoted me $929 CAD + tax parts and labour to replace a single coil... The FSM/book method is bullshit, which involves removing a bunch of parts and raising the engine.... In reality, Im sure the techs have figured out a way to get the job done quicker... but they'll still charge book time.. If you poke around the forums, the plugs/coils can be accessed using a combination of extensions and joints. For $270, its a no brainer... |

I priced the plugs last week...$24/ea at Toyota, and $25 at Subaru. I didn't get the labor quote from either. My local Subi specialist quoted the same 3.4 hours, and said it looks a lot like the H6 as far as space to work goes. I will likely try to do it myself when the time comes. I'm currently just over 80,000kms, so I will likely need to do the change before spring.
If you want to search around and compare prices on the parts alone, the Denso part# is ZXE27HBR8. Those running forced induction may want to consider running one heat range cooler on the plugs. Also worth noting, the fuel filter (unfortunately IN the tank) is recommended to be changed at the same time.

Someone just did his own and posted information about the tools and methods he used on the 86Cup Facebook page. Good to know that another owner was able to do it without lifting the engine!

Nope, just over the phone. I'm 99% sure they couldn't find it for a BRZ and just went with what a WRX bills at. I should go and if they'll put it in writing take them up on it.

So the Subaru dealer would work on a FRS and vice versa? I always wondered about this.

Reading here it is a firm, definitive, completely written in stone case of some will and some won't. Depends on the dealer.

OMG. At $270, get it done at the dealer and get it in writing!!! but don't seem to desperate, or they'll know they borked up the pricing. We've all seen how close those ignition coils are to the frame rails.... Replacing these plugs is going to be a big job with lots of contorting, scrapes and cuts.

C&C Subaru has done a couple things on my car, and I've bought more parts through them than the local Scion dealer. Their prices are cheaper, and they have things in stock.
