Muffler Delete sound without deleting muffler

What would the exhaust sound be like if you just drilled a hole/s into the piping pre-muffler?

Ok you are thinking...ghetto...but...

I ask because:

A. For track laps I want to hear the exhaust for determining when to shift.
B. Recent anecdotal evidence has shown that the stock muffler acts as a pseudo diffuser and if removed will create a fair amount of lift in high speed corners (track).

Would this sound terrible? Or would it sound sorta like a muffler delete pipe (which I have used already).

It would be a lot less permanent to just put some washers between the flanges in the final exhaust joint.

In either case, though, I'd be a little worried about damage from hot exhaust back there. You've seen the pictures of bumpers melted off, right?

If your looking to keep your oem muffler and in the same time seeking a performance upgrade, you might want to look into a gutted stock muffler.

Which is why I was thinking of drilling instead of washers. If you drill a hole on the bottom of the pipe, it shouldn't shoot hot gasses up towards the bumper.

Why hasn't anyone created a nice functional diffuser already so we can ditch this stock can once and for good?

If you really want the stock muffler but sound. Buy a muffler delete and hack away the piping on the muffler that would get in the way.

So just keep the muffler with its hangars, and install my muffler delete pipe? That could work if I decide to mutilate the stock axle-back.... hmmm

It will sound terrible.... Air rushing over the holes would cause a whistle like noise.... Don't do it...

I did this to a cargo can I had when I was 14 thinking oh yea! It'll sound great!!! No it sounded like a car with an exhaust leak... Cuz it was a car with an exhaust leak....

It is being in the works. We are also testing a prototype Berk axleback exhaust to properly fill the void which we have been thoroughly testing on public streets, back roads, highways, and track use. We have undergone quite an extensive set of iterations and we'll be testing, hopefully, the final iteration of the Berk exhaust soon prior to its release. Your concerns are the same as ours since the beginning.

Berk has been backed up with a ton of work. We'll definitely let everyone know when the exhaust will be released.
