CLUTCH NOISES WONT LEAVE ME ALONE :(

So, im starting to think I am cursed. My clutch is making some noises, and im about to light my car on fire for insurance money(only kidding).

First noise. When coasting downhill, my clutch makes this noise:

[ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TvHOWQHfJG4"]Clutch noise? - YouTube[/ame]

I have no idea what it is. And im about to lose it

Next noise. When sitting at idle, in neutral, and the clutch in, I can hear a faint noise that sounds like something rotating. When I push the clutch in, the noise goes away. It is very faint, so you can only hear it with the A/C off, and the radio off.

Sounds kinda like this video :

I don't believe its the transmission, because it sounds further up?

Any help that I can get would be amazing. Im trying to figure it out, but am lost Also, if its something that needs to be fixed, would it be covered under the Powertrain warranty?

How many miles on your car..??

Any power modifications..??

I'd guess it's the notorious throw out (release bearing).

If so, some have gotten it replaced under warranty ..... some not.

If that's the problem, the good news is that its not an expensive part; the bad news is that you have to take the transmission out to replace it.

26000 miles. No mods other than the spring delete and clutch adjustment.

I thought throwout bearings only make noise when the clutch is pushed in? The noises happen when its not pushed in

Since the TOB on these cars is an "active" type, as long as the engine is running, the TOB is turning.

True, that it is "working" only when the clutch pedal is depressed, however it can still make a racket when it is not working.

Where is @Ultramaroon when we need him ....... he's got a good ear for these powertrain noises .....

Is the car still under warranty ..... ??

If so, you may take it into the dealer for an evaluation.

Meanwhile, stay tuned for other keyboard mechanics to render an opinion.....

Take it in anyways. Make a fuss. Sometimes they might help you out. Just don't be rude to them.

I don't mean to hijack this thread, but I noticed a similar issue today.

When I press the clutch in, there is a strange rotating/ grinding noise. Same when I'm braking with my engine but at lower RPMs (<3,000). Again, it's very subtle, and only really noticeable when music/ A/C is off. I do have power mods, so I'm curious if it's my clutch slipping? Sorry for the noobness, I normally do plenty of research.

My guess is you have a bad throwout bearing, and your flywheel is rattling.

The throwout bearing should make most of the noise with the clutch pushed in

OP, it's fine. When engine braking at low RPM, feedback from the engine rattles the disengaged gears.

Same for the sound you hear when it's in neutral. Google "neutral rollover" and you'll feel much better. Welcome to the forum and enjoy your cool car.

edit: Sorry, @humfrz. My brother and I took the sports cars and ladies out to Point Reyes to see the lighthouse. Fun drive!

Well it just started happening and just in time for the 50,000 mile mark lol. I'll be upgrading my clutch hopefully by the end of the year.

Yes, likely TOB in your case. Why "upgrade" your clutch. Does it slip now? Be rolling in top gear, disengage the clutch, add a little throttle to rev the engine and dump the clutch. Does it take a while for the engine speed to drop or does the clutch grab right away?

I've driven with some sketchy clutches. It's pretty easy to tell when they aren't quite up to the task.

No, it doesnt. Just an added precaution honestly.
