True. 70s with a hint of 80s.

If you look closely..

They reach the limits of what the FR car with high power.
They were developing it earlier but something happened...

As Bob Lutz explains, the design team got as far as constructing two full-scale clay models, a Corvette and the equivalent Cadillac XLR, both with the engine in the middle. Sadly, the recession of 2008 (and GM's eventual government bailout) caused the automaker to put a hold on, and eventually cancel, this mid-engined Corvette project.

IMO they should keep the Vette as an affordable $50k front engine car. Than have this with another name to complete with the Ford GT, Acura NSX, Ferraris, Lamborghini, and etc.

Oh man... I remember that car. The Mosler is the car I'd much prefer to drive, but the Vector was the car I'd much prefer to be seen in. Different goals. As far as presence goes, the Vector just feels more exotic while keeping that "USA-Musclecar from the future" sense to it. The Mosler sported a much more boilerplate IMSA mid-engined supercar design seen in so many cars of the era (even though it was undoubtedly more bred to race).

Mosler MT900

vs Vector W8

I think that's the plan. Both variants will be offered

Budget friendly Mid-engine 'corvette' kind of already exists with the FFR GTM...

I'd take that over the pig of a car that is the Corvette...the GTM is Miata weight....with Corvette power and high speed aero...

I was a Vector fan since the W8, and on thru the M12 and SRV8. I have some Vector memorabilia somewhere...hood badge, brochures, and a wheel center. Tons of Mosler things too. but I'm really biased in my opinion of the MT900

I for one hope the new Mid-engine is a new car,,,, Chevy needs to keep the Corvette as is. I just bought a new 2016 Z51 for $49 and change. At 460 HP the car is a beast and a great driver. There isn't anything in that price range that compares. If you needed another 100HP,,, it's easy to do and FI isn't required.

I'd guess the new one comming in well over $100 (shouldn't compete with the Z06)but of course that's just a guess.

I have 2 hopes and one suggestion....

Chevy does produce a mid-engine sports car.
They DO NOT use the Corvette name for it, but continue to produce the Corvette as it has been.
If they need to have a GM name for the mid-engine, they could call it the Chevette. The irony along would be totally worth it.

With the Camaro's performance getting better and better, the only option I think is for the Corvette to change to mid engine super car status.

You think they should resurrect the Cheetah name?
