Hood Vents

They would be my first choice bc of the data, just curious, also I do like the looks of trackspec more.

I looked at trackspec but ended up with Verus ones as I like the classic look but also are very functional. On a hot day I can see the heat coming out !

Shipping an aftermarket hood to Germany is not practical for me.

If you don't mind cutting up some support there are some OEM knock offs like the Focus RS and Sierra Cosworth.

I used the Sierra vents on a old Celica, mounted them as far forward as I could so they were just behind the radiator.

They worked a treat and looked OEM (ish).

Plus they were pretty cheap, I think I paid $100 for a pair.

Personally I'm not a fan of the sheet metal vents, they look like vents you would find on a tin shed which were purchased at the local hardware store.

Well, that's what I think, opinions, as always, will vary.

I don't think you can go wrong with any of the three companies hood vents that were mentioned but I would like some more information on the rain guards and their actual necessity.

I daily mine and it rains a lot near ATL, I've read at least one case where someone with a vented hood had water pooling on part of the engine and it caused an issue. I'd like to know if that is the exception and not the rule.

Does anyone have some decent mileage on these that drives them in the rain frequently without rain guards?

My experience -
Verus vents, in Kanadian summer AND winter.
I installed only the 2 inner large ones due to the exposed supercharger air filter getting wet, due to the outer drivers side vent that would pour water directly onto the filter, (worse with the rain guard due to the flow of the rain guard).

No water gets in while running in the rain, until parked for several hours in rain then the accumulated water under the hood would make my supercharger belt squeal on start up.

For belt longevity, if overnight parking, I cover the vents with a strip of garbage bag or grocery bag.

A covered air filter would allow for all 4 vents, but an alternator cover and belt cover to allow rain to flow around would be a good idea in lousy climates. IMHO

Thanks for everyone's opinion. CSGMike is right about the rain guards blocking the heat, but I went with the Verus anyways. I'll start with just the center two and add the outer two vents if necessary later down the line. I will post pics of the install, if I do it myself... More likely I will have a bodyshop do it for me.

The vents have been banned with the updated ruleset for QTCC due to being too effective. The result is racers are adding bigger splitters to compensate for the change in aero characteristics.

Thanks for the testing data! I do like the track spec vents but one reason on why I dont want to cut my hood because is easier to resell the car after.

What do you think of this MPH Hood? Any comments in terms of cooling wise? Thanks!

They're very light and actually quite nice. Customer delivery is unknown to us. Some people received their orders quickly and others have still been waiting for them. Venting has to be done with well implemented ideas. MPH makes it so the air has nowhere else to go but through the vents. There are some vented hoods which have almost zero venting effect other than seeing heat coming out of the vents at the traffic light. Some vents work in very low speeds, but that's about it.

It's dependent on a few factors, but in the case of this car, a large vented area is important for proper extraction, otherwise, it's just a duct for air to escape under low speeds.
