Gets the clicks :/

I did, for a few days. Then I plugged it back in. It was too quiet, and I think the speaker noise is less harsh than the sound tube.

I think I’ll wait for the aftermarket to provide a volume control solution for the ASC speaker to turn it down a bit, and pair that with a mild exhaust.

I wonder if the hole is still in the firewall. It'd be funny if people started reinstalling the soundtube.

That hole ended up being useful for running power to my amps - wish it was still there in the 22. Oh well, nothing a drill can’t fix.

Correct. Also, aesthetics still play a major role in car selection for most people. I prefer Gen1 (not so much 86 2017+ front bumper) , over Gen2 even though I haven't seen a Gen2 in person yet. Gen 2 seems to have a good side profile , but front seems so-so/ decent , and rear end looks too much like some kind of Honda (looks out of place) , however the HP/torque numbers and chassis stiffness /rigidity does sound like a nice change.

Both have their positives and negatives , but I believe for most Gen1 owners , getting into a Gen2 isn't of top priority. Plus with gas prices nearing $5 per gallon , getting better MPG is a nice thing in any economic climate (as opposed to the next best alternative)!!

To me, the gen 2 looks like a car made for 2022. It has a lot of styling cues from other cars of this generation, kinda looks like other cars on the road. The first gen adopted more of a classic design from cars from many decades ago.

Does it look likely to remain that way (for autocross specifically)?
SSC never got a huge following locally (CalClub SoCal), and I'm deciding whether I should wait for a 2nd gen (DS) or wait for 1st gen prices to go down (SSC, but maybe I'll stay in DS for a bit).

Either way I have plenty of time to decide.

First gen is still in STX for this year which is where I’m at, 2nd gen to STR right now and I think stx is going to be left alone until participation dips significantly.
Every region will be different, if you do National events though odds are someone will show no matter what you pick. The chassis is popular enough.

There’s also SP.

I wouldn't mind buying either car, 1st gen or 2nd gen. I'm too old to care what people think of how I look, so I don't care what people think of how my car looks as long as I enjoy driving it.

If I were to get another 1st gen 86, it'd have to be a '17 or up for the improvements they made that year. Whatever's cheaper at the time I'm ready to buy is the one I'll get. Right now in this crazy market, a lot of new cars are cheaper than used cars that are a few years old.. I'm in no rush so will see what happens.

The improvements were to the manual only (not sure if you knew that).
