Just wondering if anyone knows the stock wheel and tire specs. This would include the 17x7 and what offset, tire width, and height?
If this was answered somewhere else then I am sorry. I did the search. |

Using TireRack to look at wheels I noticed they gave results for 17x7.5 and 17x8, I wasn't sure if that was ok and ended up here:
http://customwheelsmarket.com/rimwheelwidth1.html which says: 215/45R17 Approved Rim Width Ranges: 7.0-8.5 Choosing a wheel near the middle of the range will give a balance between ride quality and handling. A wider wheel will improve handling at the expense of ride quality, while a narrower wheel will improve ride quality at the expense of handling. |

TLDR: so basically I think I want to start looking for 18x8 + 38mm wheels with 240/35/18 tires, because
-it will be flush with the fenders (that offset and width is well within fitment ranges, so aesthetics with no driveability cost) -1 inch lower profile tire (aesthetics and stiffer contact patch, at the expensive of weight and bump absorption) -1 inch wider tire (grippiness and the only expense is dollars every time i get tires) Calculations/reasoning follow. Read if you feel like helping out by checking my comprehension. "One expert we asked says he likes to see wheel width between 85 and 90 percent of section width, while another tells us he likes the section width to be about 1/2 in. wider than the wheel width." By my understanding (which I've just started working on tonight), this means on the stock 7 inch width wheels the experts would suggest about 190.5mm to 210mm. Does that mean the stock tire is kind of wide for the stock wheel? Is this a general trend between stock cars (more sidewall coming out over the wheel flange) and aftermarket wheels (less sidewall coming out for aesthetic / performance reasons)? Also some other numbers if anyone else wants to sanity check. I can't find an explicit number for total tire diameter on google but going by what the terms mean (wheel diameter + section height as a ratio of section width * 2) we should be aiming for 24.6 if we're not modifying other parts of the car. on an 18 inch diameter wheel, that means you're trying to put 3.3 inches on each side or 83.82mm. so to get the actual 1st tire number you want (tire section width) * (tire section ratio) = 83.82. so the options are: -186/45/18 (a bit narrower tire-wheel ratio than the most skinny rule of thumb) -210/40/18 (within the range of the experts rules of thumb) -240/35/18 (outside the range at 1.18 sectionWidth/wheelWidth, but still narrower than 1.20 sectionWidth/wheelWidth of the stock set up) (and 38mm offset for flushness is irrelevant to this) The "perfect flush" entry for 8 inch width at 18 diameter (which I'm realizing is irrelevant to the flushness) (http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7932) uses 245/35. That is wider than the rules of thumb, which are not phrased in the OP to be minimums but rather targets. Am I reading too much into that? is wider ok? EDIT: also, the 31mm offset for rear flush (@8 inches) means that the rear wheels are closer together than the front wheels or the rear fenders are wider right? I can check this visually tomorrow which is which, I have a feeling it just makes engineering sense (complete guess) for the distance between wheels to be the same so I'm guessing the fender is just wider in the rear. Lay: tire width usually is with last number of 5 +/-10mm. ..185-195-205-215-225-235-245.. Also the smaller wheel diameter, the harder to find wide wheels and wide tires for it, and vice versa, little to no narrow bigger diameter wheels and narrow tires of that size. 185 for R18 wheels? Most probably you'll find only 18" spacesaver tire of that width (with much higher sidewall profile and hardly for regular driving fitting grip/wear/speed rating) with "normal" tire selection probably starting with 215, and narrowest R18 wheels probably 7.5" and wider.
So in general there are no tires of 186/210/240 width and probably you'll have hard time finding 185 wide ones. |

You can simply skip trying to get exact match. For generic sizing rule of thumb IIRC if diameter is within 2%, you should be ok. I suggest to use online tire calculators and charts to get tire sizes, for example this.

Im realizing even if i dont lower my car flush wheels might rub against the fenders on big bumps. So flush wheels sacrifice quite a bit in driveability.
I dont mind sacrificing a little performance if itll make me like the look of the car a lot more, but stancing is not my goal at all. I dont even plan on lowering the car at all because i dont want daily driving to get worse. I think Im still gonna go with 18s but i dont need flush offset. Im gonna search through the threads to see if it does hurt or if i can get away with flush wheels at 8 inches wide (id appreciate if anyone reading this can shortcut that process with experience). I am looking for performance without big sacrifices in daily driveability, and aesthetics when i can get it for free (in regards to those two factors, money is a whole separate axis). Are 18x8 with 40+ offset the way to go? https://r.tapatalk.com/shareLink?url...1&share_type=t This is the thread that makes me think i can go for 18s. .7 seconds faster with 17s vs 18s is fine with me. I may go 17s anyway, ill head to a car meet and see if 18 really looks much better bibbity boppity give me the zoppity |
