Yep, back in the day (here we go again @swarb ) maybe it was because we had other things that hurt worse, when messen with our cars.

* kickback from the hand crank

* holding onto a magneto wire to see if it was making spark

* trying to adjust the valves on a hot, running engine with a screwdriver, while working a wrench and feeler gauge.

* getting hit in the face with a brake return spring while trying to install it

* being hit in the face with the "run away" handle on a bumper jack

* burning your fingers while lighting patch glue, while patching a tire tube

* trying to see at night with 6V, non-sealed beam headlights

* getting your eyebrows singed by spraying ether in a carburetor, when the engine backfired

OK ....OK....... I'll take ma meds and turn in .......

Op, I feel your pain except I have a problem with my achilles heel. When I get caught in Manhattan stop-and-go traffic in my daily (manual NA Miata) I get a lot of discomfort in my left foot. I just try to open up the gap with the car in front so that i can just crawl in first gear and minimize clutch use.

That being said, whenever I drive my AT FRS hard, Im always impressed at how quickly (.3 of a second) I can "change" gears; gotta love that Rev-Match feature! I love manuals as much as the next enthusiast but it's 2015 and autos are not what they were. These autos despite not being dual clutch, still shift faster than any human and give you full control of your gears. Some say its more fun pressing a clutch to change gears, I say in a modern car...it feels archaic.

OP, why don't you just test drive a new vehicle to see if your used one is functioning as designed. It's free and doesn't require a physical over the internet

Thats one of my tactics, and when you open a car gap, nine more try to pull in from either side in Atlanta. Atlanta is really bad

Yep this is why exotics and most vettes are sold as paddle shifters. No man can shift as fast as the cars need to be shifted really.

Y, I remember ....back in the day ... ( @swarb - don't miss this one), one could drive your car down to Mexico, and in about 2 days and $100 later, have a "tuck and roll" upholstery job done ...... with "real" leather ........

You can actually still do that. Back in the day...(early 00's) my friends who were into car shows(rice), they would take their cars to mexico to get $450-500 full interior wrapped in vinyl. Full interior! headliner, dash, pillars, seats, door panels, rear deck. It would only take a day, and 10 dudes would work on your car.
