NEW OBD2 Smog test checking ecu for tunes!?

Anybody know if this will have a problem for Ecutek or OFT buyers?

Isn't this pretty much what they already do in many states?

Chicago is an OBDII test, they are only concerned with emissions readiness monitors. I've passed in 3 different cars, all with tunes/reflashes.

I would be more worried about visual inspections, I think OBDII only tests are the easiest to pass

Did you have to flash back to stock? Im also guessing you were running catted front pipe and headers?

Considering you're exempt until 2018 at the earliest.... why worry about it now?

Most tunes have the ability to make emissions monitors "ready" or ignore codes due to missing cats/evaporated equipment etc.
These features are rarely advertised as its sort of a touchy subject.

I've passed all testing with tunes on the ecu, several times without cats, and usually some form of forced induction. They don't even pop the hood, they only want to read the emissions monitors and keep the line moving. This depends on your local area of course.

No cats would fail a visual, and more than likely fail a true smog test with tailpipe sniffer.

Check your local laws on emissions testing to see what they do. Most places even allow one or two monitors to be "not ready" so you can do some tricks to pass anyways.

...technicians will plug into the vehicles' on-board computers to find out how well the cars perform when they're actually on the road.
NC has been doing this for 5 years or so.

And starting this year, all cars less than 3 years old with less than 70K will be exempt from all testing.

LOL, CA. That crap spreads, unfortunately.

WTH is this:

Breitler noted, “The need for change is clear, officials say. A 2009 audit found that 19 percent of cars that initially passed a smog check ended up failing a roadside inspection within a year.”

OBDII scan only testing works out great if you have a modified car or your income depends on car related repairs.
