Actually, the U was the name for the engine family not B as there was the U the 2U then the 2U-B.

And as it was already pointed out UR is already taken by the new series of V8s. So I think it's going to be:

1HR-GSE. Take a wild guess at what the H stands for?

That or perhaps this engine will represent a new line of engines (the 2000s could represent the (x)R family of Toyota engines just as the (x)Z did for the 1990s.)

Hm... Subaru don't use H for horizontal.

How bout EJ20-GSE?

Toyota will use it's own naming conventions regardless if they made the motor or not. If it is in a Toyota badged product it will have a Toyota based name for the engine. Likewise, I'm sure Subaru will use their traditional naming conventions for their version. I find it highly unlikely but theoretically possible that Toyota could hybridize the naming conventions of both companies and call it the 1EJ-GSE (Toyota does not list displacement when naming their engines .)

So unless this engine represents a new series of engines - in which case (x)J is possible - I believe we will see a continuation of the (x)R series.

Why? Other company's keep the engine's code name if they use other company's engine.

So does Toyota.... The used LD9 in the toyota Cavalier, but the fct remains, they are doing the head so it will most likely be Toyota badged.
