If they don't show you were sent an email, I would call the customer advocacy dept and ask them to work on getting that fixed for you, above and beyond just verifying an email is on file.

Yea I guess we could, I just feel really petty complaining that I’m not getting automated updates on my car I’m ordering. I feel like asking SOA if the email on file is correct is fine, but anything else is going to create more work for them. Supply chains are screwed enough I don’t want to create work they can spend on keeping things flowing as normally as possible. I’m slightly annoyed, but it’s really not a big enough deal to have anyone spend significant man-hours on IMO.

I understand BMW is a luxury brand, I’m not expecting Subaru to send me a video of my car rolling off the line, but allowing customers to access some status info off an already published online database seems like peanuts in 2021.

Straight from our retailer FAQ:

The following customers will not receive an email:

- If their current ETA in Subarunet is within 7 days of the date
their order is entered.

- If the customer has previously elected to not receive email
communications from SOA.

-If their email address was misspelled, or omitted, at the time
the order was created.

Customer was expecting an email, but has not received any
communications from SOA. What can we do about that?

A. There are many reasons a customer may not receive the emails that
SOA sends. It could be landing in their spam folder, or their email could
have been misspelled. They, or you, can always contact SOA’s customer
Retailer Services at 1.800.SUBARU3 for an update on the status of their
sold order. CRS representatives have access to the current state of each
customer order, as long as they can find the customer information or the
customer has their order number.

Yea that would be it. They sent me so much crap after I bought my BRZ in 2016 that I unsubscribed. Well then.

Also the Sold Order emails don't really tell you much about where the car is until it's actually closer to arriving. For BRZ's (and other Japan-made cars) you only get the following emails:

Order placed email (VON)
ETA Scheduled (VIN matched) email
Released at Port and on the way email

For real, it’s crazy. And I’m normally pretty patient and level headed about these things.

The only stress I had was to get the VON from the dealership, then I called SOA customer service (tks Yoshobaroo) and got it. Now, I am on the waiting game, which is expected, so no worries.

Not that if they brought the car tomorrow I would not be extremely happy.

While I am thinking I'll get my order in November (hopefully early), I'm still a bit worried about what the actual purchase will be like. The ordering process was "too smooth" and I never expect things to go well when it seems too good to be true.

The dealer quoted me (in writing, email) an out-the-door price and everything was at MSRP (other than the labor to install the spoiler). Has anyone heard of dealers deciding they could have gotten more money and introducing a "price adjustment" at time of pickup/purchase?

Last time I got a new car was back in 2011, and it was a sequence of pain. Misalignment from serpentine belts causing noise, key fob failures among other issues. I hope that Subaru does a better job than the blue oval in this case.

Myself and mostly my father was worried about this when I told him how smooth the process was. I barely had to haggle to get 1k under MSRP and I repeatedly asked both the salesperson and the manager if they would honor the pricing. I have it in writing in multiple emails that they would honor it and the dealer itself has plenty positive reviews.

They told me it's because dealers generally have a little more leeway with getting good prices when it's a pre order car coming from factory, something about incentives but I forgot the specifics

Unfortunate. I hope so too.
