Yep, even small aircraft have two, and it is standard practice during the runup before takeoff to test each independently watching for the drop in power (it's very small) and listening for any differences in the sound of the engine.

Experimental builds without the redundant systems alwaupys make me wonder... Then again, how often do we see failures in cars these days. Clearly, what do I know? Not much about this.

A lot of experimentals still use certified engines with some redundancy or have engines that were modified for redundancy. I would happily trade redundancy for fuel injection though.

The resto-plane that ditched into Elliot Bay was because they forgot to put fuel in.
Oops.

In my earliest childhood memories are the countless times I listened for it, impatiently waiting to grow up enough to test it myself. Mom was such a stickler about that.

I have two years of power train warranty left. If it ever goes back to Subaru for something I'll make sure to have them notify their area service rep. That way they can explain to him why they can't find or fix it.

Should have mentioned that also independently tests the dual spark plugs/cylinder as well. That's more likely where you'll find some fouling or such that is an issue, not the magnetos, at least on run-up.

I know but I'm supporting my argument that mag coils do indeed fail. Quit muddying the waters with your facts.

Oh, I know they fail, and I have the rebuild bill from my last annual maintenance to show it!

Fuck whomever decided the census questionnaire in the ass with a dodge 4x4's driveshaft!

About 2 hours of bullshit "need to know" questions from income, taxes and more information than on my last resume. Way to personal. Send me the $100 fine. Your not getting my information.

/tinfoil hat rant.
