What's crazy about that story is that while reading it, I didn't pick up on the relevance/impact of all the events that were happening, as they were unfolding. They just seemed like minor annoyances/time wasters.

Then you mention barley clearing the road at the end of the runway and I was like WTF just happened?! I probably wouldn't even have fully understood what just transpired had I been in your shoes. But it sounds like you knew right away.

Thanks for typing that up and sharing your stressful experience. Nerve wracking for sure and a poignant tale about how small deviations from plan/procedure can have a cumulative effect, especially in regards to safe flying.

I'm glad you found humor in it like I did, have to make the best of a crummy situation. I have replacement tips sitting on my work bench, waiting for spring to install them.

Oh I definitely wouldn't have been laughing in the moment, that's for damn sure.

Good for you for looking forward during a difficult situation, and working towards getting everything back to the way it was!

Thanks for posting that. Great read.

You can't calculate exact density altitude without knowing what the barometric pressure is, but given what you said, I think you nailed it with that assessment there.

The standard temperature at 7,000ft is 34F. The rule of thumb is to add 120ft for each degree above standard temperature. So, the approximate density altitude for that day was 7000+((100-34)*120) or 14,920ft.

Basically, on that day at that airport a Cessna 172 with a 14,000ft service ceiling would have never made it off the runway.

Early, friendly reminder that if you haven't gotten reservations for dinner with your special someone, do it now.

Same thing goes for flower arrangements.

Also a reminder that certain websites offer their pro-member videos for free on that day.

My coworker spent several months testing and R&Ding a widget with the overseas factory, negotiating a price point and quantity to order, designing packaging, getting all the Canada side sign offs etc. In the 11th hour their superior decides to switch suppliers to someone cheaper. The savings are less than 10 cents per unit, and the downside is a known less reliable power unit.

The keen observers can see where this is going .

And to the surprise of no one we've been having a lot of upset customers because their multi-hundred dollar widgets are DOA.

In Q4 of 2022 we threw out/salvaged parts from thousands of these units due to the faulty power unit. We've also spent thousands shipping defective units from customers to our warehouse to then ship out a Canada tested unit... which could fail at any moment. When our QC inspector was testing these replacement warranty units, they were opening "new" stock and had a failure rate of nearly 40% out of the box.

But they have learned because the latest order went back to the original supplier.

The phrase "penny wise, pound foolish" comes to mind...
I'm fighting this right now. The company that used to apply the polyurethane on the cores of a roller we use went out of business. I talked to, and got quotes from multiple companies and made my suggestions. It was decided to go with the cheapest option. Our return rate has gone through the roof since then due to post curing issues and separation. Our GM decided to get involved without talking to me and somehow in his discussion with the company they decided to drop the hardness 10pts on the shore A scale and they were shredding apart. Now we can't hardly get parts from the place and I am going through and requoting everything again.

A year ago my GM decided to take over one of my projects, without telling me, so I was unknowingly working on it separately and wasted a bunch of time doing so. He had a sample 3d printed without having anyone else review the model at $1800, didn't fit. A bunch of us went over the sample and gave recommendations. I viewed the model after the recommended changes were supposedly made and noticed not all of them were. He had another $1800 sample 3D printed, it didn't fit again. We went through the same revision process again, he okayed a tooling to be made at about $12K without having anyone review the final revision. Didn't fit Luckily just trim fixture adjustments but JFC.

GM also decided he wanted to test another lithium battery for our battery powered units that experience high shock and vibration. We have tested LiFePo4's in the past and they worked but the BMS always failed and the only fix was to send it to the manufacturer for repair. Didn't consult anyone on this new battery got shipped to us. It's fucking NCM. So I wrote "BOMB" on it with a marker. Talked with the charger guys about getting a profile made for it, they worked with the manufacturer and said it was a nightmare. Took like 6 months to get a charging profile for it. We ended up sending it back and it cost us $500 to ship it. Never tested it.

McDonalds doesn't take reservations.

There are always plenty of flower arrangements available that day. And they are FREE!

I mean, you can start "reserving" your favorite arrangements at the cemetery. I do not recommend this if someone lives in CT as you can and will be fined/or go to prison from 1 to 10 years.

How do I know this? My BIL does landscaping at a local cemetery and has seen it happen.

Even better: This happened last year in my hometown 15 mins away from home https://patch.com/connecticut/stonin...r-theft-report

Even funnier, I guess the family member of the deceased (Victim?), was really sick of that guy's shit and decided to attach a GPS unit to the bouquet.
