Steering Rack Bushings: Grease or No Grease

Ok, this will probably seem like a dumb question. I am installing Whiteline steering rack bushings. They came with a packet of grease and no instructions. I have seen both that one should apply grease and should not apply grease to steering rack bushings. Which is right?

My quite fallible logic would say the bushings are fully constrained by normal forces so any shear would just serve to wear/squeak/etc., and thus I should apply the grease that was included in the package clearly for this purpose, just like all the other poly bushings.

Because poly I would agree, and it shouldn't hurt in this instance. iirc I did my delrin bushings dry, no regrets.

Whiteline usually has instructions easily available to download on their website, looks like the link is broken for the 86 steering rack bushing kit. Their customer support may be able to provide it with an email to them.

I greased my Energy Suspension rack bushings.

The Australian Whiteline website says this, so I assume you should grease them:
Quote:
Supplied with extreme pressure molybdenum disulphide (LM) based grease for extended life.
Internal grease reservoirs provide continual self-lubrication for optimum friction management.

@nissanfanatic as above diftech, good quality, no issues.

Personally I don’t think they’re worth it, oe bushings are stiff enough, others disagree.

The clear right thing to do is contact Whiteline support to get the official instructions. So I just greased the bushings and installed them lol.

Just for fun, when I installed mine I did call Whiteline. Had a nice chat with a technician who said the grease is mostly to prevent squeaks. The knurling on the inside of the bushing is to help hold the grease in place.

For anyone who doesn’t own a tub, I highly recommend ordering this large tub of energy suspension grease. So nice to have on hand if you find a poly bushing is starting to groan on you.
