The second post in the following thread has a link to the 2018 BRZ wiring diagrams. There may be some differences between years, etc. but these vehicles don't tend to change much.

Perhaps when the wiring harness was being assembled the pins were not fully seated and didn't get locked down. When the two halves of HD2 were plugged together those pins slid partially out of HD2 instead of sliding together. We might be interested in pins 1 and 7 of HD2. Interestingly enough, those two pins are both on the same end of HD2.

Yes, that is also a possibility. I remember that Ford had some issues back in the early to mid 80’s on a handful of trucks and Broncos where two of their speaker wires were reversed according to the diagrams and we had to de-pin and correctly re-pin the OEM or aftermarket harnesses so that the speakers and wiring would properly match up and be in phase with each other. Mistakes at the factories can be made.

That HD2 plug would be easily accessible where it’s located to check those wires.

If you try to fix it yourself, do not break anything and do not tell them you attempted to fix it yourself or they may just say it voids the warranty.

This guy leads me to believe the signal passes through the tweeter wiring to the door speaker. [ame]https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=fJzRDDDbM9w[/ame] . I’ve been sizing up the sound system for 2 weeks now. I took it to a sound shop today, and asked how he could appreciably improve on the 8 speaker system. He listened to lots of different music, adjusted the EQ many different ways, and surprised me in that:
- at higher volumes it came alive beyond what I thought it could
- it produces a lot of base but need to crank it (not bone slamming, teeth jarring, window shaking bass, mind you) but goes beyond my normal needs
- tweaking the EQ dialed in much better sound at lower volumes (12-15) Bass -3, mid -2, treb +2. I Might be able to live with this, surprised!

You should be getting noticeable bass out of the door speaker.

I’ve poured over the online manual, scoured the internet, asked the dealer for info, but cannot establish the rating of the HU or amp in terms of power. Will happily share any more that I discover.

this guy is an idiot that has no business owning a screwdriver, let alone telling anyone anything about audio. i stopped at 8 minutes. i can give you an itemized list of the things wrong up to that point, but it really is a waste of all of our time.

I thought I was doing you a service by picking up at 8-minutes, but he's cutting apart the speaker cone with a box cutter like he's peeling an orange. 9:30 minutes in and he's mangling the crap out of it .. and there goes the cone...

The picture made the difference. I found the HD2, and it's properly connected. When the dealer corrects this problem, I'll be sure to get an explanation of what was wrong.

I try to be nice. I try to give people the benefit of the doubt. This guy just took that benefit, tied it to a string, and flew it like a kite.

Just a few minutes with a volt meter at that plug would tell you if you’ve got 12 volts coming in and going out on the two wires.

True. But you must be far more flexible than I am. I'll let the dealer's tech earn his money. I won't be paying him.

It looks like a jumper is supposed to be used with this headunit. Any chance you can see if this is unplugged on your car?
