My only info is what I read on here. FYI, my build date is January and I have never had the hyperflash issue.

The QC hold could have been just about anything. The most probable was that it was not to "repair" an issue but because they did not have all the parts to finish the vehicles at that time. There were thousands of vehicles waiting on QC hold and many more right this moment because they were waiting for needed parts.
Back in January I saw some pictures of a whole lot of a certain pickup truck and built and ready to go but waiting on seats. You don't get a much bigger QC issue than a truck with no seats!

If they were destined for the Southeastern U.S., nothing.

Have you seen the price of milk crates lately? Nobody could afford them.

I think the GoPro might seem like a good idea at first, but a picture is smaller to store and faster to see what's going on . Time becomes the enemy with videos, unless you post-edit with captions, quick clips of the action... but that's going far beyond the basics.

Your points are all valid but a video is the only way that i can think of, that will actually document the entire process from start to finish. Sure, you can show receipts/pictures of oil, filter, VIN etc but these alone cannot show that you actually changed the oil. If they don't have time to review my proof, they can't deny my claim. Hard drive storage is cheap these days, you don't need 4k res @ 60FPS for these videos. Just do your standard 1080 at a lower frame rate is the best bet if you plan on doing your own oil changes. Just my pinion though.

what i'd like to know is why the aftermarket isn't stepping up with a replacement gasket...

Wouldn’t it also have to do with the boxer engine design? The way it’s sealed I mean. Subaru and Porsche are really the only two companies using the boxer layout.

Nope. Many other engines use sealant instead of gaskets now and many boxers still use gaskets. It all comes down to cost and time.

The only thing unique to the boxer is the layout. This does create a large timing cover that has to span the entire front of the engine, though I don't really see a traditional gasket doing a good job of sealing that either. In fact, I think it would be worse.

They have used actual gaskets on boxer engines forever. They are multipiece affairs' and can be fun to get in place (I have only done my old Corvair) but work just fine. Really easier to do than getting that perfect bead of sealant I am sure.

Yeah, we all know the real reason is less parts in the BOM and not having to stock gaskets on shelves.

But what if the gasket you need is at the bottom of the tube?
