Better Mic to replace OEM Mic in BRZ / FRS ???

I have had several people tell me that when I use the Bluetooth Mic in my BRZ, the sound quality is just horrible. I really like this feature, so I'm wondering if anyone has replaced the OEM mic that is located near the dome light with a different model that offers better noise canceling, quality, etc?

Not unless you can create a PCB or a network of resistor/capacitor to lets the mic work with your HU.

^^^. Thank you for your response even though I do not have the foggiest idea how or what you are talking about..it's beyond my skill set.

So somebody.... Vendor...hint hint, has to come up with some type of replacement for the crappy OEM mic, or is it really too difficult?

Bumping for input.

I was just thinking about this today. I think I might take apart the mic housing and see if there is something I can do. I'm hoping maybe I can add some rubber/nylon washers and some closed cell foam to help isolate the mic better. Maybe it's just bolted to noisy panel and the mic is picking up alot of vibrations? Don't know yet.

Maybe relocating the mic is an option

Am I the only one who has been told that the call quality when using the OEM mic sounds like crap?

Alright, I'm not alone.

Some vendor / member could make a lot of cash fixing this problem.

I'm in the same boat as you.. My wife hates the way the bluetooth sounds, as it transmits a ton of road and engine/exhaust noise. It was bad enough that she actually installed a call recording app on her phone to document it. When she played back a few calls, I completely understood, and I concur with her.. It's terrible.

I have the Canadian model of the BRZ, and mine comes with this big ugly mic attached to the headliner, to the left of the rear view mirror. (sorry I dont have a picture) I believe it is part of the Pioneer AVIC 940BT headunit that we get (i believe it's the same as the more common AVIC 930?). You could potentially look deeper into the mic used in the Canadian model's headunit. I haven't gotten any complaints on sound quality from the other end of the phone, though they always can tell when I am accelerating.

It does look quite ugly though.

I did a quick search, here is what I have in my car (came with it stock)

I have an iPhone 4 (not 4s) and it works great over bluetooth with my phone in my pocket. Great clarity as well. Bluetooth may have something to do with your phone as well. What model do you have?

I would really like to move the mic out from the headliner and down onto the steering column. Just makes sense to have it there...
