Rear half shaft lateral play

My left side rear axle has a small amount of lateral(parallel to the axle) play (there seems to be none at all on the right)

Does anyone know if this is normal or is it cause for concern?

Axial play you mean.

Unless it's making noises while under load I wouldn't worry about it too much. Keep an ear peeled, but don't lose any sleep over it.

It's always the left-side... Apparently related to proximity of CV joint to exhaust.

Do you track the car, or ever launch it hard?

Last track event this year, I could hear a modest "click" sound at a hard transition from banking to flat infield section at NHMS. Not a big sound but made me go "hrm"... Everything felt fine. Until on one lap I lost all drive at that transition. Thought I'd fragged the clutch, but it was the left inner CV joint. Worked fine until it failed completely! Fortunately @gcranston had a spare halfshaft handy!

Anyway, I'm sure I was hearing some play in mine before it totally let go. Yours might be on the way out...
