Not impressed if she was on the force assigned to clear up the occupation, but she isn't.

They cleared up Ambassador Bridge in Windsor/Detroit which is the busiest border crossing in North America, with several arrests. Protesters were asked if they were willing to be arrested, and most said no and left.

Even if they aren't quarantined to return to Canada, these truckers are inadmissible to enter the US without up to date vaccinations. Many of them are really hateful of the government and use pretty offensive slogans. They set up a hot tub in front of the legislature. It's a frickin' tailgate party.

Day 17 in Ottawa, time to make a few arrests and end the illegal occupation.

If you normalize the data with the US population then Russia had 466k new cases yesterday, and these numbers are on a weekend, which tend to be lower than weekdays. Germany had 603k new cases in US population equivalents. France had 609k new cases in US population equivalents. Japan had 262k new cases, Brazil had 209k, Greece had 549k equivalent cases, etc. Check it out. Two days ago, Mexico had 2,363 US equivalent deaths, Brazil had 1,749, Russia had 1,651, Spain had 2,824, France had 1,837, Poland had 2,608, again in US equivalents. Sweden is coming down from their wave, which hit a high of 1.8 million new cases in one day and 2,178 deaths, in US population equivalents, so the numbers are there.

I think we should open it all up at this point. Everyone has had a chance to get a booster and vaccine who needs it in this country, and we have enough treatments for those who are vulnerable, but if we didn't, it doesn't matter because the vaccines aren't doing enough to prevent spreading it, and we have saved the most that we are going to save who want to be saved, and it gets harder and harder to justify implementing measures and restrictions.

The nation and my local hospitals are still impacted with staffing shortages and with patients congesting our hospitals. We have many COVID patients in the ER at any one time. Typically a quarter are positive, but many are incidentally positive. If that is why they are being admitted then they overwhelmingly are unvaccinated, so that is on them. If they are vaccinated then either they are homeless and can't get into a shelter yet, so it is a social admit, or they are older people in a skilled nursing home where they live borderline in their cognitive and physical abilities, so even the mildest of symptoms makes them a fall risk or altered that much more, so they have to be admitted. The only serious cases I see now are from unvaccinated people. Yesterday we had 13 admits the whole day, which is half of our ER beds. Very little movement, as the hospital was full. Some of that is seasonal, but much of it has to do with staff shortages who are sick, caring for family that is sick and/or quarantining, and it is from the influx of COVID patients.

Unfortunately, we are still having a no visitor policy because we can't have hundreds of visitors coming in and out of the hospital and potentially taking out caregivers. Even if someone like myself is asymptomatic, we have to quarantine until we can contact employee health, and we can return to work before five days, because we are in staffing crisis, if we are asymptomatic, and if we test negative with a rapid/antigen test.

We should have a public message to avoid ERs unless you have a fever over 102 that can not be controlled and you have significant chest pain or shortness of breath. Anything less, people need to avoid the ERs, and if people can do that then we could probably fully open at this point without hospitals being overwhelmed, at least in my area. I can't speak for every area, as vaccination rates differ. Some places might not be able to handle the surge still.

this is where my chicken analogy took off. i started writing a post with logic and reason, and how i'm frankly surprised that it took this long to establish stiffer border crossing regulations for people that bounced from country to country for short periods--i mean that's a quite literal definition of someone spreading disease. but then realized that it wasn't going to go anywhere.

the public outcry of a chicken farmer accepting free diseased chickens and contaminating a much larger group of chickens, we've already seen similar headlines and recalls, and everyone's overall happy that the governments are there to protect us from bad stuff in our food... where's the outcry for #i'll_eat_whatever_i_want, and #my_body_my_food ?

Looks legit. I mean, what is hard to believe because she is just saying she supports them and that is a sentiment that is shared across many professions? Cops have joined in BLM, Anonymous, 99%, Jan 6th, etc, so anything one police officer says isn't surprising to me. I mean, I could see how it looks a little staged, but it really didn't need to be staged is all I am saying.
