Personally I'd be really worried about drilling into the wheel. Have you considered gluing the spacer to the hub? Just put a couple of drops on the next time you have the wheels off and they should stay put.

Hi,

Thought I'd quit lurking for a quick thank you to Slick for his help today. I would not have considered the need for longer lug nuts with steelies but he was prepared and saved me a bit of a headache.

I had initially planned to store my car but after driving around today on winters, I am glad I didn't!

Cheers,

James

Sure but do they stay in place after high-heat track events?

Removing a bit of metal from the wheel hub shouldn't be an issue and from a worry point of view I have to admit I'm not really that worried. However, if there is hard evidence that the structural integrity is compromised I won't do it. As for glue I've thought of using it, but it's one of those project I want to just do once and not really mess with a solution that might not hold up to track day heat.

@CarGuy - I don't get the reason for concern about "dangling" spacers lol
I have really nice machined 5mm hub-centric spacers on my back wheels and they tend to stock to disc rotor anyway - drilling into the wheels to just mount the spacers on the wheels seems overdone IMO

I'm considering those bumper-fender latches to remedy the fucked-up bumper clip problem. I already bought a little kit for $6.99 with nice blue anodized o-ring holders - I'll have to drill a small hole in each front fender but without winter salt it should be ok...

Hello everybody here! I do drive a 2013 Scion FR-S Red, but not a member of the Ottawa group yet, but looking into it.

Currently reside in Toronto, and thinking of making the move to Ottawa in the near term.
I will be visiting Ottawa for the second time either this coming Friday, or the following, and while I know where Parliament Hill is, I do not know anything else about Ottawa.

Looking for a future home, and I was wondering if any of the locals here would recommend areas or neighbourhoods to check out? Since it's gonna be a one day trip, I've so far come up with Stittsville, Orleans, and going to also check out Alymer on the QC side.

I'll be making a few visits over the next few months, but any other recommendations, or even thoughts about the places I've mentioned? Any info from the locals would be great!
@CarGuy

Hey, good to see you on this site! It's Alan from the OTA. I would tend to agree that those spacers will stick when you remove the wheel, but tapping the rim and screwing it on isn't a bad idea either. But this is only for the stock rims, is it not? Your rims should clear the kit, depending on your offset.
I was thinking the Endurance kit wouldn't be a bad choice... Sprint kit is enough for what we do, but I do like the serviceability of the Endurance kit. Would it be worth considering, despite the cost difference?

Thanks All!

Alan C

@AC86

Hey Alan, good to see you on the thread. The endurance kit is only about $500 more so it's very much worth considering. However, it has too few wheels that fit without spacers. As for real estate all those areas have a lot to offer. Try doing a search on the cost of living between Ottawa and Gatineau - it used to be more expensive in Ottawa, but I think it has evened out over the years. One feature that might be of interest to you is proximity to Calabogie. I live near Kanata and it takes me 50 minutes to get to the track. From Aylmer you have just a few bridges to choose from to cross the river into Ontario. From the east, say Orleans you can get stuck in traffic on the way there but you're used to that in T.O. right? The downside is that the morning commute to downtown is a bit longer. If you decide to take the plunge and you don't have a real estate agent check out J.P. Walsh from Remax - he's a motorsports guy and a pretty good real estate agent. Tell him I referred you.
@FRS_Ken

Meh... Call me picky. My preference is to have two sets of 17x9 +35 RPF1 I'll be getting a second set soon and they'll be +35 offset. I'm simply converting my +45 to +35.
