The USD > JPY conversion rate should not be a gauge of actual car price across different regions. You need to consider local PPP to determine whether the car pricing is the same or not.

Just because it sells for ~$20k USD in Japan doesn't mean MSRP will be $20k.

Thank you! I have had this debate with the Canadian rates many times and nobody seems to get it. You cannot just take foreign values, convert to American dollars and call it even since there are 100s of factors involved. In Japan a yen is a yen and converting it to dollars means nothing unless you are paying in them.
