how NOT to pay MSRP for aftermarket parts.

Like the title says MSRP to me stands for:
Money u
Shouldn't
Really
Pay

It's usually pretty easy not paying for MSRP when you purchase a car but my question is in the case of aftermarket parts.

Lets say an aftermarket company is selling an exhaust system for
$1,000 MSRP how exactly do you negotiate to get the non msrp price?
Is it only when you have contacts withing the company selling the product?

when aftermarket companies are told they product is a little too expensive
they will usually reply by saying "that's just the MSRP".

I feel like there is something I'm missing. can you negotiate price with websites selling aftermarket parts?

I haven't paid MSRP on anything on my car, keep an eye out for group buys, intro pricing, coupon codes, etc. I also have some wholesale connections so that helps too.

Developing good relationships with vendors helps too, they will usually give you better pricing for being a repeat customer or buying multiple items at one time.

I appreciate the tips but you seem to be really well inside the car business world. I'm just the average Joe looking to save some money.

It seems that it's a matter of time and opportunity rather than negotiating.

First you don't buy directly from the manufacturers site. Look at sponsors on this board and find the product you are looking for. All you have to do is simply PM them and ask for their best price on the product. If you think the price is too high you can always ask another vendor if they can do better. I'm pretty sure no one pays MSRP for any aftermarket parts.

No one wants to pay MSRP ... PM us if you need anything for your car. We have great prices and great customer service as well .

There are plenty of specials going on right now for your car. Is there anything specific you are looking for?

Getting a great price on your parts is alway's nice, nobody wants to pay full pop.
But just as important is communication and shipping.
Some vendors shine in all three of these areas, I can think of a few. And some just offer a good price, but only offer mediocre shipping rates, delivery times and communication.
I personally would rather pay more for my mods if I get the later two. Luckily for me, I've manged to find a few vendors that have done all three

Can you PM me the name of those venders? Cause I have had a hard time finding a vender that does any one of those things.

MSRP is obviously set by the manufacturer. It's usually a starting point for negotiations between businesses and the consumer. You will almost always never pay MSRP in the aftermarket parts world.

But just as MSRP is set, there is also MAP (Minimum Advertised Pricing). Its kinda when you go to BestBuy.com and they make you add to cart to see price. These regs are set in place to keep the product from losing its value as well.

To get to your question, you don't need to try. There's already so much competition between shops that the price drives itself down.

True, I drove to a dealer out of state to get my OEM spoiler installed. Not because it was a great price but because I knew they would take care of me if there were any problems and they wouldn't fuck with my car. Plus they gave me a free loaner since I traveled far to go there. I value the service more than the bottom line, within reason.

You're having some bad luck then. We usually don't compliment our competition but there's a handful good vendors here.

On the flip side, there's a couple crappy one's too.
