SRT FR-S/BRZ High Flow Intake System R&D

Hi,
Many of you have been requesting for updates and pics of our development/progress of our High Flow Intake System with ECU.

Well here are some preliminary pics and descriptions of our intake system.

PS. Please note that these are still preliminary development pics and we have a lot more and will be posting regularly.

PPS. Pricing is still TBD until completed and full costs are calculated. Yes we will have an introductory pricing available once it goes on sale. No we do not know when it will actually go on sale, sorry.

First thing to do is to remove the factory intake system, that is the easy part:

Next easy part, install the 3" quad layered silicone hump coupler:

Now the fun begins: the next 5 pictures is one of our key ingredients.
This is a specifically designed bellmouth velocity stack for the FA20. We did full 3D modeling of the flow path of the air through the intake pipe then designed the perfect elliptical* bellmouth velocity stack to optimize the air flow while at the same time accelerating the air flow and straightening it before the air hits the MAF sensor for proper precise Air Flow meter readings.
* There are three types of velocity stacks, the simple radius, then the aerofoil and the most efficient is the elliptical. We chose the elliptical even though it is the hardest to make, which was optimized for the particular diameter of tubing used and created a full 3D CNC machined tooling to efficiently make it in-house. This tooling allows us to make the velocity stack with extreme precision and perfect 100% duplication.

On the next two pics we have the beginnings of our resonance chamber box for the intake system:

More Pics of development of resonance box:

Here are some MOAR pics.

The next 6 pics is showing the plexiglass top cover as well as the filter placement of the intake system (please keep in mind that it is not complete as of yet and we will have a heatshield to protect the filter from engine bay heat as well as direct fresh air from the factory air snorkel), enjoy:

Of couse a couple of the guys at the shop decided to put an LED light inside the box, I bitched a little, but I must say it did look pretty cool, perhaps for cars in car shows

The only thing that disappoints me about this intake, is that it's not on a White-out from Gainesville, Fl!

Just a quick blurb: Almost every single piece on this intake system is machined in our CNC machine or made by tooling that was made in our CNC machine. These parts that go into the intake system cannot be made by injection molding process due to the complexity of the design.

The tubing is a specific grade aluminum alloy that has very precise ID and OD tolerances in the range of +/- 0.005" The resonance chamber is made from 0.125" thick walled 5052 aluminum alloy. We decided to use thicker walled materials to increase the strength of the intake system as well as allow us to keep very tight tolerances and minimize distortions causes by the machining/welding/manufacturing process.

Looks sweet, but am I the only one scratching my head at the design? I know it's not finished and all but still...

I'm really liking the symmetry of this intake so far, but seeing the hole cut out on the left side of the resonance chamber for the fresh air feed tells me that it won't stay symmetrical.

The first thing that came to mind when I saw the velocity stack was this:
