Here's the latest from the rumor mill -- but with SOME components confirmed (i.e., ending of production for current gen)

https://www.motor1.com/news/414380/t...u-brz-upgrade/

This falls WAY more in line with what the most of us expected -- an NA FA24 with a slight bump in power.

Given the power being put down on the 2.0 Supra (see D-Sport's recent post on instagram where they dyno'd the new 2.0 against the 2020 3.0), this seems like the right answer. Also -- 217hp 177tq seems also too specific to be a "guesstimate".

Anyways, I am glad to see the something other than 255HP GEN 2 COMING OUT! That we know was never going to happen.

Perhaps Subaru and Toyota will keep the twins pure after all....

217hp + 177 tq. Doesnt seem like a whole lot, but should be noticeable though, especially if they fixed the torque dip in addition to that healthy torque increase.

New AT? Must be an 8 speed unit unless they went with <shudder> a CVT.....

Still just a rumour based upon a romour but at least not as outrageous as some of the others. Keep in mind that it was Best Car and Motor 1 that lead the charge with "confirmed" reports of the platform change and 255 HP turbo engine. Now they are back pedaling as if they never said those things. Best Car's track record for guessing on these things has been abysmal for years yet all the other sites still parrot whatever they write and I guess they just hope people forget what they said before.

Even more interesting is the claim that the new Twins will reuse the chassis of the current Twins, i.e. not the speculated TGNA platform (which always seemed either too long or too FWD for the Twins ).

Honestly I always doubted that the next gen would be turbocharged - it goes against all that the Twins were designed for from the start and competes too much with the Supra and, dare I say it, the WRX.

For sure...totally agree. And by no means trying to rumor peddle, complete caveat that it's still rumor and not confirmed...but it's positive to see a rumor that seems more plausible and in line to what we have been thinking.

Maybe they read enough of our thoughts on it and decided it was fact now!

I have little doubt there is (or maybe was is a better word) at least a couple of the team that watched this forum closely.

They were probably reading all the clickbait rumours and being all like:

My money is on this rumour for sure. The lowest power bump would of course be the most believable. I just hope the new engine will be able to swap itself relatively easily into the pre-'21 cars.

So long as it revs as high as the FA20. From the HP/TQ figures, I guess it won't.

I really hope not as 7400 is already not too high. But considering how tight emissions regulations are getting around the world, we will likely see some sort of decrease
