She lives once more! (post-recall damage)

Excited to have my FR-S back up and running. It was one of the ones that took a shit a day after they did the valve spring recall. With it being in a garage needing a new engine for the last two and a half months, I'm just excited to have it back up and running. Getting some new DZ102's for it tomorrow and going for a drive! Also going to be looking over the summer for any meets in the Portland, Oregon area, if anyone knows of any going down.

Edit: For anyone in the area thinking of doing the recall, I would highly suggest against it.

Was it because it's a Toyota dealership and not a Subaru dealer?

Glad your back in your car. I hope you didn't have to spend any money on rentals and labor cost on your end.

What did they determine the cause of the failure? Any out of pocket cost to you?

Do you have a wider rear tire?

I'm doing the charity hillclimb in Maryhill in June. I'll do the recall after that. Brand new motor sounds nice.

In the registry thread he said the dealer claimed it wasn’t related to the recall and offered him to buy a used engine. He said no and got his own used engine and paid someone else to install for less than Toyota quoted.

I wouldn’t bet on it. Short block if you are EXTREMELY lucky. Most people are getting fucked on this. Your best odds of getting a new long block are to ignore the recall and hope for a broken spring.

It was McCords Toyota in Vancouver, Washington. Cost me around $4k once everything was said and done. Dealership claims they did nothing wrong, but looks like there is some excessive sealant on the old engine.

No, it's probably just the angle of that picture. Haha.

First Thursday’s of the month, a group of us meet in Tigard for Sykart. Other than that, there’s a group that rolls to rdm, idk who they are.
