Herman seems to have a preference for meal worms rather than crickets.
Still choipin'

I only use Pure gasoline 93 octane with zero ethanol and I haven’t heard any crickets now at all. About $.30-60 more per gallon but I think it’s worth it. Not sure how accessible it is for everyone but if you can find it I’d give it it a try. I’m on my fifth tank without crickets.

To be honest, I've had the car for 5 years and I don't even notice the crickets nor the sound tube anymore.

I know there are tons of threads on this issue, but it does seem like most of the discussion is relatively old. I have a MY14 BRZ with mid 40k miles on it. It started making the chirping/crickets noise a few months back, and I thought it was the serpentine belt until I looked through the forums.
It sounds like gasoline type may affect this, so I'll have to try out a few different types. Unfortunately in SoCal it's basically all 91 octane with ethanol. I usually switch between 76 and Chevron, so we'll see what a few tanks of Chevron does. My understanding is that there was a new fuel pump design released in 2016 along with a new TSB. The most recent Subaru TSB I saw on the thread was from 2013 (09-54-12R), but there seems to be a Scion one that's from the right time period: S-SB-0007-16. In the threads I've seen, it sounded like there were mixed results even with the new pump, though. When I called the Subaru dealer, they said that the new fuel pump was incompatible with my car. It's only compatible on the MY17 and up, I think he said. That seems rather unlikely to me, but I wanted to check with you guys. My car is out of warranty, so I doubt I'll get them to fix it for free. Anyone know what the parts would cost and whether it's reasonable to do myself? |
