Any harm in doing it this way? This is what made the most logical sense to me and is what I did. Maybe risking overfilling, I guess?

I actually did this to empty the case but then used the flat method to fill the case, which did fill it to the requirement levels plus a few extra CCs. Reasonably, there should be a difference in how much fluid the case can take based on it being a bone stock dry case, a case that was removed and drained completely, and a case that was drained on a flat surface for just quick change. This is probably why the plug is designed to allow for a drip/fill method. With that said, small variances shouldn’t be a huge worry if you put a specific amount in the case that the manual says it needs.

Did mine this weekend. Everything went as expected. Only issue is I couldn't find a way to fit a torque wrench alongside the transmission to torque the fill plug, so I tightened it down by hand.

I did notice a difference when shifting into 2nd. Doesn't feel as buttery smooth as a Honda, but it does feel way better than before.

These plugs I usually just German torque (goodentight) with a ratchet and use the length of the ratchet based on expected torque value to help prevent me from overtorquing too much. The only way to get a torque wrench on some of these hard to find places is to either use a crow's foot wrench or to use a combination wrench torque adapter like the one from Motion Pro.

If you used new plug o-ring/gasket and it's not leaking you're probably fine

I didn't, not for the fill plug. The 2 that came with the Motul oil said 'drain plug gasket' on the package so I used them for the drain plugs in the trans and diff, and recycled the washers that were on the fill plugs already. Bad?

Not too bad as long as it isn't leaking, it's just good practice to replace all of them next time anyway as they are supposed to "crush" with the torque to the seal the bolts

Changed my diff and trans fluid with the recommended Motul fluid. I have noticed absolutely no change in changing gears. If anything it has gotten worse. It is still hard to shift into 2nd. Sometimes its smooth as can be. Sometimes it grinds like crazy putting it into 2nd. Intermittent annoying problem for sure. It seems to have more problems when shifting at lower RPM's. Maybe I should drive it harder... Also, I changed the fluid after the dealership replaced the clutch throw out bearing and clutch plate itself. This is just a disclaimer to all that may think this is a fix for a "notchy" shifter. Didn't work for me.

Can Red Line MT-90 be used in the rear differential? I really like how it feels in the transmission and thought I'd use it in the differential next time I change fluids.

Had the same problem. A U-joint socket adapter solved it.

just an FYI, I did my trans/diff yesterday and used this kit. It has enough washers/gaskets to do the job twice, and it costs as much as one OEM transmission drain washer https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07CJHTDVV/
