Here is the text message I got from my rep: yeah not going to wait that long for a pipe dream lol...

"Realistically, as of right now we have petitioned your case for the 86, and Toyota has told me that we can get one, it might be the model of that year. They said 2021, not sure why they would skip a year, even with Covid in mind. "

Not sure if you can even put a 17" on with the Brembos.
I have a Hakone and have 18s waiting to go on. 18x9.5s with 265s. Overall though, the combo only weighs an extra 2lbs compared to stock, so the trade off is between weight and grip.

No regrets

Plus, they’re TEs and #TE37theWorld lol

I wonder how much of that is serious and how much did they pull out of their backside... Honestly I wouldn't hold my breath for a Hakone. Either get a tS if you want the special bits or a base one if not.

Well if that was true it means everything we have talked about in many threads for the last two years is trash since there is no second gen.
It is also a one year special edition so even if there is a 2021 model year there is not probably going to be a Hakone.
They didn’t get any such reply from Toyota and are blowing smoke up your ass. If they will not give you an actual order number (VON) or a VIN for an already made vehicle then they are not getting one for you.
Don’t wait too long or you my not get a tS either and will be stuck with whatever colour and trim they can actually find.

Plenty of aftermarket 17 wheels that clear. Some 17x8 and larger. Not many 17 x 7.5 , but some depending on the offset There is a thread on it.

Model year can be different to the manufacturing year. For example, a car with manufacturing day July or August 2020, can be a 2021 model year. I was checking something else now and it looks that the production of current generation was extended for one more year. However, chances are that the new order will not be for a Hakone. Such models are considered "limited production models" and they come out for a single year. Personally, I would go for the latest production model.

I’ve seen a couple articles on places like edmunds that just talk about how there’s no new changes for the 2021 model year.

And another one from today that says the 2021 is available in Hakone Green and makes 217hp/177tq lmao

They created a new booklet in Subaru Germany this month. The new cars will pass the newest Euro 6d-TEMP-EVAP-ISC regulation. The previous ones were passing the Euro 6d-TEMP regulation. Price is also a bit higher ...

My god that takes every single click bait story and rolls them into one. Very creative.

Well the people that bought the Final Version in Germany will be pissed if that is so!

Yes indeed, but it was a very limited amount of users anyway.

They were saying that the upcoming EURO 6d-TEMP EVAP-ISC (DG) emission standard would make the import of the car into Europe impossible, thus the reason of the Final Version. Now it looks that they invested and made the necessary changes to pass the standard. Personally, I am really excited with this decision. I didn't like seeing the platform go away ...
