E46s are a blast, but the s54 in an m3 can be a finicky bitch. If you have one that was poorly maintained, it's gonna cost a fortune and be a nightmare. The 330 zhp is a really nice car, but they're showing their age. Still one of my favorite cars, but most cheaper examples are ragged out. An e92 335 with a chip would be a ballistic missle. The 335d is a torque monster with a tune.
Fwd cars are just kinda meh. The g37 is nice, but the clutch is horrible. The engagement point is always a mystery and way too grabby. The interior really isn't great either depending on the model year. The twins are a blast. Raw little cars that put a smile on your face, but they're definitely not fast. Depending on what you want to spend, you could look into a 997 as well. But I don't know what your price range is. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk |

The ZHP is too heavy to only have 225hp. I went from N54 E92 > E46 ZHP > N55 E90. The E9x is a better car than the E46 in every way IMO. Now I have a nimble sports car in my BRZ, and a fast highway beast in my E90. With my ZHP I had neither. |

My post was meant to be sarcasm I think I was too tired to communicate that effectively, that's my fault. I've had an E46 325i and it made me want to drive it into a lake. E36 is the only BMW chassis I enjoyed for daily driving or autocross. Admittedly, I haven't been in one newer than 2010 so maybe things have gotten less...muted.

Help me choose a RWD car with a manual transmission
Quote:
They haven’t . Everything past the E-chassis sucks. My friends and I joke that we’ll have to start hoarding E39/60s and E36/46/90s to last the rest of our lives lol. My one buddy found a pristine 80k E32 740 he’s manual swapping so he’s keeping that one forever. I’m with you on the E36. The only bmws that are truly light enough to be sports cars are the E30, E36, Z3, and 1st gen Z4. The rest are sporty sedans. Until the F series, then everything went to shit. |

Have you considered a 370Z? Drivetrain of the G37 and near as fun to drive as a 86/BRZ. The E46 M3s is great, but they rip out their rear subframes and VANOS can be expensive to fix if you aren't comfortable with its DIY. The civic...nah.

Why in the world would you replace your GTI with an inferior (and quite ugly) Civic Si? GTI is better in every way. Does your GTI not have the torque vectoring LSD? If you want to make it a bit more interesting as your car get an APR ECU reflash.

I'm an average height dude, couldn't fit with my helmet in a sunroof E46 M3, had to gangsta lean to drive it, otherwise modified it was a lovely car to drive hard even with the SMG. I get trading the GTI in for a Civic, just a few steps away from comfort into sporty on the spectrum, but I'm not sure it would be rewarding enough. And the Civic Si is probably sportier than the Inifiniti and BMW.
tl;dr go test drive, buy a miata |

A friend of mine has an ND MX5. I have thoroughly enjoyed driving it but I couldn't imagine owning one as an only car. There's just no storage space to speak of, either in the car or in the boot.

Out of your list I would choose the FRS/86/BRZ, but I’m slightly biased. I don’t think there is a better drivers car in its price range, including the Miata. For me. I’m tall and don’t fit in a Miata comfortably, but that could be different for you. Plus I don’t like convertibles or its wobbly stock suspension. So no the Miata is not ALWAYS the answer.
The twins are amazingly communicative, it’s impossible to find that in a new car that isn’t a Porsche. And they are somewhat practical if you don’t regularly take more than one person with you. Regarding the interior, it’s nicer than what auto journalists and internet comments would make you think. It’s very well put together, and everything is easily in reach. It’s sort of like a more modern S2000. If that is your thing, you won’t think twice about the interior. I would avoid an older BMW like the plague, unless you are REALLY sure of its maintenance history, and even then....it’s an old BMW. Pass. I’ve never been a fan of most Infiniti offerings, I would choose a 370Z over the G35/37. I know it’s the same chassis, but Infiniti’s “luxury” premium isn’t worth it. All Nissans/Infiniti’s will be creaky and rattly eventually, except for maybe the R35 GTR. If you want to go Honda, the Civic Si is obviously a good choice, but like you said, it will always be FWD. I would consider finding a well kept S2000 if you can get one at a reasonable price. It sounds like to me that you value the luxury features of a car, and the twins are not meant to be in that space. When you start wanting a car to be good at everything, the price keeps climbing. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

From that list, I'd decide between the E46 M3 or BRZ/FRS. M3 if it's been well-maintained and you have the cash or ability to fix the well-known flaws with it. BRZ/FRS if you want something smaller, lighter and more reliable. I've tracked my friend's E46 M3 a bunch of times and it is a lot of fun and has been surprisingly reliable for him (although personally I prefer lighter cars).
If you're considering something as large/heavy as an E46 M3, I'd heavily consider a Camaro or Mustang, especially the SS and GT. Both have more performance than an M3 with better reliability and newer features.
