Let’s be real, in the beginning ALL Subaru cars looks fugly… just after a while, you get used to the look lmao

Honestly, irl or on photo, I didn’t mind the exterior look. Only odd design I don’t like is the 2 fangs roof spoiler. Interior in other hand, I do not like the cluster or steering (inside the steering w buttons) looks very odd. Rest of the interior is average looking with nothing to amaze in quality or design. Just decent functionality.

I don't know I kind of always liked the Brat. Particularly with the right optional equipment...

Brat was a good functional, no BS car. Can go off-road (w 4WD option) w dirt cheap parts (back then) if you break while doing some fun stuff on the weekend... but it was no neck breaker. Only time Brat broke neck was these college kids carry chicks. THAT was literally only time

I always loved the Brat (at least in theory as I never owned one). It was one of the cars I wanted when in high school. It's also the car that came the closest to getting me arrested for stealing a car...

I was in high school when these were new. One night I was just cruising through auto row at about 1AM just slow rolling by the cars. The Subaru dealer had 5 Brats sitting out at the front of the lot. I pulled into the lot and just started walking the line.

I noticed one of the cars (a green one) was unlocked (they had the old fashioned door locks) so I opened the door to look in. I then noticed the keys were in the car! Being the suspicious type I quickly closed the door and walked back to my car, but didn't quite make it all the way back.

I spent the next 15 minutes explaining to a detective that I really was just looking at the cars. Apparently it was some sort of sting they had going on because there had been a rash of vandalism, stolen cars from the dealerships.

My friend's dad used it own one. Just like any other Subaru cars, had love & hate relationship. Rust, gasket issue, glass gears & few other issues, but when it was working he was loving it.

My friend had a brat. I helped him swap motors after his blew. It was the same mediocre quality of most imports of the time. Most dealers couldn't get little imports fast enough in the late '70s after the second oil crisis.

17mm still wayward. As is my s/o's wheel lock key (I think it grew legs on the last trip to the dealership, as it lived in the glove box). I foolishly made the mistake of telling her this instead of just hammering a socket onto the locks, removing the stupid locks, throwing them out, replacing with normal lug nuts, and taking this knowledge to the grave. She would not have ever noticed. We are now on a mission to acquire a new one tomorrow

Winter tires on both of my vehicles without issue and all my wheels stacked and stored (3 sets).

Ugh, I have to do this soon. Can't wait for my car to look like one of those dragsters with the sunken tiny front wheels. Maybe I can convince my wife I need a 4th set of wheels. She might agree if I sell the old summer set.

Yeah... stock wheel fitment is no bueno, but it works for the winter when everything is gross. No sticky tires until April for me

Language is dynamic. Unless you want to speak in olde English all the time. And then that came from something else. It's all really just new and stylish ways to make grunting noises.

But I will say, using "ironic" to mean "coincidental" does bother me quite a bit.

"Fitment" bothers me just because it sounds odd and made up in the context it's used. "do the tires fit" is just easier on my ears than "how is the fitment of the tires"

I've just moved passed it though because it will never not be used in that context. It is in car culture now.
