The narrow nose, narrow cabin and round fenders can give the car a narrow look. Whereas, the 86 is more flat and squared off.

This car reminds me a lot of the Dodge Viper. It can look funky, but in person, as Tcoat said, it all seems to come together.
Excellent example!

I like the MKV. Been following it for a long time over on the sister site. Knew from the jump they were going auto only but it's still disappointing knowing that the manual is already developed and available in the 4cyl BMW Z4 20i in other markets.

No manual is just a deal breaker for me. I'll wait to see what the 2nd gen BRZ/86 has in store for us.

So what? So did every other car and manufacturer. Many of which improved more than 15hp in the same time period

Yay! The styling of Toyota with the reliability of BMW all wrapped in to one car, just like everyone was asking for!

Does anybody have any actual data on reliability? And don’t show me some JD Power and Associates award. Looking for solid evidence like higher recalls or something.

I mean, I would expect more maintenance with a luxury brand like BMW, and I would expect more things to break because there are more things, and those things are more complex. I would expect BMWs to be leased more often than owned, and I would expect worse care from leasees than from owners, so I would expect higher failure rates from poor maintenance. I have also heard BMWs are aggressively tuned, so I can imagine more issues than other “reliable” brands.

The reveal was unusual to me not for the car but the presenter. Akio Toyoda is no shrinking violet but his uncharacteristically brash presentation was off putting for an automotive exec. Really, did we need to hear about his great driving ability, masters license and endless hours driving a "used car" at Nurburgring not knowing if he'd survive? Save the drama for the monthly board meetings, Akio, you're no Fernando Alonso.

I'd give him more credit if he instead focused on developing Toyota halo cars internally and maintained shareholder value that's down 10% over the past three years instead of subletting to others and dilute the brand.

Besides, if Supra is all about road performance, shouldn't it be entered in IMSA to complement the Lexus effort instead of NASCAR?

Maybe I'll think differently after driving one but from what I've seen on paper, 86 v2.0, should it happen, has my interest vs. what appears to be a stillborn Supra.

This place gives a rough indication of number and severity of TSB's, recalls and advisory notices by year, make and model. Interesting to compare almost any Toyota to it's segment competition. Click the Select Your Vehicle Now button.

Could be old rumors mixed into the article which was posted today. Either way, I agree the Toyota press release is the thing to trust.

Odd, the EU Supra comes in at 1495kg or 3,295lbs.

Quite some time ago there was a camera announced that I was interested in.

Two Spanish journos interviewed a couple of officials/techs from the camera company. A feature request question was asked and the tech/engineer dude said something along the lines of "it's possible but we don't know if we will implement it".

It was incredible to see this one point of translated information morph across the web going from one question being replied to (it wasn't really answered) to this feature will be incorporated into the new camera. Of course there was no mention of where this info came from.

Headlights look ugly. It looks like the white waxy thing coming out of eyes in the mornings.
The rear would have looked a lot nicer if they replaced that ugly lip with an actual wing like on a Viper or Lotus.

The BRZ/FR-S/86 triplets look so much better!

Just to note: a Blitz modified MKIV Supra with 606hp ran the ring in 7:49.

Congrats to Honda for running a 7:43, but they supped up an econobox. The two cars aren't in the same class.
And? We shall ignore that it's barely faster than a Civic just because they aren't in the same class? Toyota's premium sports car is just barely faster than a "supped up econobox". And you find that to be a good or acceptable thing? Seriously? If I were Toyota I wouldn't even release that time if it really does run a 7:40 or slower.

And older chassis sucked in comparison to modern chassis. Modern performance cars are much better performance cars than their older versions.

Overall, I'm a bit disappointed. I feel like they missed the mark yet again. For the given horsepower and weight I would say the price is about $5000 too high. Given how small the car is, why is it so heavy?! Only 100 lb lighter than the considerably larger BMW M3? Seems odd. I want 3 pedals so this probably won't ever be a consideration, but maybe I'll test drive one at some point. Feel like I need to see one in person before making a judgement about it's appearance, but from the photos I'll say that the hood looks artificially tall. And regardless of seeing one in person, the non-functional door vents are straight up stupid.

And anyone saying that Toyota should have just modified the Lexus RC clearly knows very little about that car. The RC is a heavy mess, thrown together from bits and pieces of 2-3 other car models. It's the last thing you'd want to use for a sports car.

Altogether I have to say that this new Supra makes me appreciate the BRZ/GT86 considerably more that I did previously.
