Can I use 5w 20 penzoil ultra platnium I cannot find anyone who has something bad to say about it
Or am I better finding a 0-20/0-30?
Amazon has the 5-20 for 35 a jug :0

I like Eneos Sustina 0W-20 although my next fill will be Joe Gibbs FR20.

For the street, flip a coin an use any API SN/GF5 0W-20 oil. Be careful what you read at bitog though. Motor Oil University was written by a plastic surgeon and some people in the industry say it has a lot of errors.

Neither Valvoline VR1 nor RP HPS are API certified, but I would probably go with RP HPS 5W-20 if I hit the track. These cars see high oil temps at the track. There was actually a recent very funny thread about which oil to run in the 86 (well one of the last responses was funny). "Cujet" FTW!

Cujo for the win. Right. A vague reference to the glory days of Daytona in the '70s and y'all are convinced.

They never even heard of Herr Fischer or Herr Tropsch. They were stuck in the '70s. Are we really comparing son of flubber to polymethacrylates?

I do hope that no one is taking these beautifully balanced 86 machines, adding aftermarket enhancements, and then going out to the track and redlining on TGMO.

Thick oil people are so thick. At least I got bluesubie down to HPS 5W20.

Amsoil Signature Series 100% Synthetic 0W-20 👍 I believe in the "there is no BEST oil' statement, but I can tell you this is a very very very good oil, and all I'll ever run in my car 👌 I'd chose it over any of the other suggestions

So what makes the 5-20 better then the 0-20 as they would both be just as thick once heated
Or close enough
I'd understand 0-30

I am really leaning towards the Penzoil just wondering if that's a good oil?
Or would the Amsoil be better

Or would a 0-30 be. Better suited to aussie conditions and driving the car hard

I'll never track my car, it's a daily driver for me. I'm more interested in why Subaru specifies a 0w20 for this engine. My last subie was a 2.5 NA in my 2006 legacy, and the compression on that engine was obviously lower than this one and it used 5w30. It would seem to me that this thinner oil might not protect as well, and might slip past the oils control rings more easily.

Simple answer = clearances.

That's right
The clearances are Alot tighter
I'm happy to stay with. 0-20
Just thought maybe for hard driving and hot aussie conditions a 0-30 may be more suitable
I guess a UOA will best tell me tbh
