Makes me wonder why Subaru/Toyota didn't simply make that "fin" part of the quarter panel...

Curious how much sand will get behind the fender liner with that tab missing.

Maybe a small foam block with one sticky side can be added as a barrier there. Weighs nothing at all and wont matter if it falls off or degrades.

Probably don’t want foam, or anything that retains moisture. What a crappy design choice by Subaru and Toyota making this weird tab lol.

That and I'd be worried about corrosion with the proximity of the cuts to the exterior and his modest sealing job.

Are these fenders aluminum? I saw it mentioned in some articles. Most mention only the roof and I couldn't find anything on the Toyota site. I have no experience with how aluminum corrosion progresses with car parts. I suspect very very slowly with OEM primer on it. It can take off in surprising ways on bicycles.

Ah yeah that makes more sense, that rear quarter is totally integral to the unibody so most of the thing would need to be aluminum for it to be, hah.

In that case, whew, this guy better keep an eye on those cuts.

I have rubbing, albeit minor, at full compression at the rear with -2.3 camber. Again, 18x8.5 et44 245/35r18

Edit: at stock height, you may be ok.

My ARC-8 17x9 ET42 wheels with 245 SX2s on a friends 2022 poked on the rear and looked like it would have rubbed. Fronts looked fine. My wheel spec will be very close vs an 8.5" ET35 for fender clearance.

Go with 235 or narrower if you don't want to cut up anything or run massive camber.

For clearance in the rear, as long as the offset is 45 or greater, wheel width (9.5, 9 or 8.5) is irrelevant as long as tyre is under 245.

After reading this entire thread, I'm still trying to figure out if this'll work with minimal camber and no spacers. Currently, I'm "stock" for camber, which is -2 rear and -0.5 up front which came from the 0.6" drop (gonna be adding more camber to front). The question is, will 255/35r18's on 18x8.5 +42 rub anywhere or need spacers. From what you guys are saying, no spacers would be needed, but it seems like the rear may rub. Correct me if i'm wrong.

here's another video for wheels and more in-depth on where it rubs for te37 18x9.5 +41 on 255/35r18s

starting around 3:44, keypoints at 5:45 and 5:59

Finally got warm enough to put on my summers.

18x8.5 +48. Tires are 245/35.

The car is too dirty to post pictures but as expected the inside of the front wheel clears the spring perch by about 5-6 mm and the rears are perfectly flush with the fender flare thingy.

Perfectly flush? Are you in coils?

I ask because I have 18x8.5 +40 rims coming in a few weeks, so you think they will poke? Only 8mm I guess…

Please post pics soon!

8.5 +40 may poke, albeit very slightly. I'm pretty sure 8.5 +45 or 8 +40 is the perfect flush sweetzone

Here's my 17x8 +45 on fat tires (245-40)
