Well that explains why I have seen at least 6 people state that they each had "the very first FRS sold in North America". Some must take that 1 of 86 plate and believe it is sequential. In all fairness if you didn't know the whole thing and just saw the plate you could think that.

The first one actually delivered in the US belongs to @Pekingduck if I recall the order correctly (Yep, here's the story). There is a thread on here somewhere that documents them.

The difficulty is that Scion did a great job with the First 86 promotion, but not so much on the follow-up. For example, the numbered "bling" we received (a carbon license plate frame, a Pen, a couple of other things) were numbered (I have #3) but it doesn't mean anything.

We don't know the order that people were selected, and some of us were "alternates" picked after the first person selected did not make the $500 deposit required to hold the car. The car VIN doesn't tell you anything since they were pulled off the line based on color/trans preference and what was on the first ships over. They were not built sequentially.

They are not even really the first 86 cars, just the first 86 delivered in the US. There are early purchasers that were not a First 86 that have lower VINs. Mine is a 2xx serial numbers, but there are others that have lower, and some have VINs in the 1xxx range.

I suppose those of us that made the trip could have randomly drawn numbers but in the end after presented with all the information we decided as a group that since the only two numbers anyone would really want was 1 or 86, we would all get the same.

I have the first one delivered/registered in Georgia, by about 24 hours. There is a second Georgia First 86 as well, but I beat him to the dealer.

It may sound selfish, but I'm glad sales have fallen off.

I really don't to see the same car I'm driving on every corner, or even every day.

I'd prefer enough of them on the road that I don't have to explain what it is to someone at every parking lot, however.

I was just lucky I got pick for the 86 promotion and the dealer I chose that was Longo, which is the bigger dealer in the United States. The promotion was great with all it swag item and I was happy with how they treated to whole situation. I talk to that vice president guy and even he knew the sales would drop off and say it just the nature of sports car and short term interest by the consumer.

With your modding you may have to explain what it is to other owners soon!
You sure won't get lost in the crowd though.

The sales numbers are not accurate...I picked up mine from the dealership on May 25, 2012 and it was not a First 86... There were more than 86 FR-S sold in May 2012...

They may have applied yours and others against June sales just to maintain the 86 on paper for the first sales.

I fully believe that is what they did, and that's why the sales numbers are not accurate. I know for a fact more than 86 FR-S were sold in May 2012...

I believe any inaccuracy is just that one month and as @Tcoat suggests it was made up in June.

My guess is the dealers just didn't report the sale until June 1, or whatever the 30 day period was that the First 86 were supposed to have theirs.

I know in the case of my dealer, they were almost sold my car to someone else and planned to give me the second car they had coming in two weeks later. (I had a lot of issues with the dealer, who had no interest in the whole First 86 program but Scion wouldn't let me change dealers, long story). I'm sure they would have not reported the first sale until June.

And still outselling every other imported sports car in the US by a pretty big margin. That is especially true if you count the BRZ and FR-S as one car, which they actually are.
