You have what I meant backwards. The manufactures build what will sell. If they will sell 100,000 Bugattis a year they will find a way to make 100,000 Bugattis a year. Sales numbers do not dictate desirability. Desirability dictates sales numbers.

^ If the masses 'desired' an 86 more than a Mustang/Camaro you'd see the sales numbers flip and Subaru would be in overdrive producing as many as possible and Ford/Chevy would be in panic redesigning the next gen to be much lighter and more competitive with the 86 on handling at the expense of power. But here we are.

Remember when Chevy and Nissan teased lightweight RWD concepts in response to the 86? Funwheeldrive remembers.

No but they do make a shit ton of watches because a shit ton of people want them.

Edit: I just googled it, Rolex makes more watches than Subaru makes cars at 1 million per year.

It's not rational but never really liked VW. It's not impossible for them to win me over with an amazing product but they would have to have work harder with something superior to what is on the market that really appeals to me.

Wasn't a fan of scion either but the FRS was that good and cheaper than the BRZ. Now I'm proud to have the best car with a scion badge in history.

IIRC, The Bugatti Veyron was a loss project. Lost money on every sale, and they knew that.

There is nothing wrong with Buicks or Chryslers and just because you don't like them doesn't mean others don't.

There is nothing really ironic is the point. It doesn't matter if hundreds of thousands of cars outsell another car--sales don't matter--the 86 isn't a niche car; it is desirable by far more people than those who buy it, just like a Bugatti is desired by more people than the few who can or choose to buy one. The 86 is just not a practical car, but at least it comes from two strong manufacturers.

I believe the OP's point was who would really choose a Buick over another luxury brand, or a Chrystler 200 over a Civic or Accord, and the fact is so few did the Chrystler 200 ended production, as an example. Yet to your point, probably more Chrystler 200's were sold than 86's, so the buyers of the 200 must be more informed or have better taste, and/or the 200 must be the better car in general, or to produce, over the 86, right?

No you missed the point completely and I am not going to explain it to you again.
