It was the scourge of mid west farm boys, who had to open up (hand shuck) the first two rows of corn around a corn field, so as one could get the corn picker started in the field.

Nope it wasn't poisonous, but if you ran into it in a cornfield, it could bite you and leave a large mark.

While we are out in the corn field, who will be the first to tell what this is and what it was used for .....??
