Opti-Coated my BRZ

Look here for most of the before and after stuff. I used ONR, IronX, Chemical Guys P40, Goo-Gone, 91% IPA, LOTS of MF towels, and my wife!

http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10660

For not being a professional, I think I did OK.

i was about to ask the question.. what is opti-coat -- ?
i thought you had to take it to some place to do it ?

is it easy to do yourself -- can you give me some details on this topic if you dont mind ??

thanks

Only do it yourself if you can forgive yourself for screwing it up!

I did about a 95% good job. A few scuffs that I mostly fixed and some small straight swirl marks. I didn't get all of the latter. Its not bad and I'd have to point it out to see them. Paint prep is and always will be a bitch for those of us that don't do it for a living.

I paid 65 bucks for the opti coat and have used it on two of my car and have enough to do my trucks if I want to.

That's vs 300-800 or more to have professionals do it depending on paint quality. In my mind...well with doing it myself.

Also, Opti-Guard, the pro version, cures faster and far harder to give you superior scratch resistancy over Opti-Coat 2.0. You can not buy Opti-Guard as a consumer.
That's good info. Too bad there aren't more detailers that use Opti-Guard...I'm still trying to find one in the Cleveland/Akron area to just apply Opti-Coat for me after prepping the car once I take delivery.

Garry, Just watched your YouTube vids doing the Opti-Guard on the FR-S AND BRZ. WOW! Awesome shine. Very informative. I wish you were here in San Antonio! I'm tempted to visit your shop in Tampa after I pick up a SWP BRZ in Charleston in a month or two....I hope....when and if it ever gets here! Trip would be worth the detour if I could make an appointment right after delivery!!!

Hey, if you should come across an Opti-Guard detailer in the San Antonio/Austin, TX area, please let us know! Thanks.

I polished first with chemical guys P40. I did get some minor streaks, not sure if it was from the opti pad itself or didn't rub it down well enough. It's very hard to see, looks like very fine spider web silk, single little random streaks of it, and only in a few places. I'll try to polish one spot down to see if that helps. My wife thinks I'm insane, she can't see it. Maybe I'm going crazy.

Lol you have the best opti guard installer in the United States in San Antonio. He's the ORIGINAL tester and has used it for like 7-8 years! His names Anthony orosco and runs

Opti coatings are different:

Opti coat 2.0 is the entry coating, very forgiving in application, easier for the consumer to have success.

Opti Guard is the pro level of the coating, its a bit trickier to use, not consumer available, and has more solids in the coating (more durable IME and opinion). The detailers that use this have to be approved by Opti coatings.

Opti Pro is the new warranty coating that is Opti Guard with a warranty attached to it.

Cheers,
GREG
