I can tell you that its very effective and not uncomfortable in practice - they strike a good balance.

Agreed. The 2013-2020 cars have a nice balance when it comes to the digital speedo smoothing. Not too slow so you don’t jump around as much as Porsche‘a cluster, and not an illegible blur like ford’s implementation.

Did the "nice" officer take the payment in cash and in a brown envelope?

What I'm saying is: I've yet to hear why this refresh rate matters in any remotely practical way.
Watch the video of the Porsche speedometer and tell me that wouldn't annoy you. Not being annoyed is a practical consideration.

No, it would not annoy me. Primarily because I don't stare at the speedometer when accelerating that quickly. It would annoy me more not to only be able to read the second digit because the first is doing the bounce back and forth.

Given that it's likely the speedometer is wrong anyway (see earlier discussion about accuracy) it's just a reference.

It takes all kind to make a world.

At this point the question is: how to increase the speed of the speed?
Do you think it’s a simple software tune they can make in a Toyota/Subaru garage?
Or will we have to change the whole instrument panel?

The Porsche one would probably annoy me just because it looks uncomfortably long. in particular when I'm trying to hit the speed limit around town (you regularly encounter 30-40-50-60-70 and 80 kph in and around the city I live in).

IMO the speedometer in the first gen is useless.. We have the digital speedometer inside the tachometer so thats what i look at if i want to know speed.

Love the mechanical tach and also the fact that its right in the middle of the dash. Reminds me of the older STIs back then

ya missed the point yo, OP is crying about our digi speedo being too "slow" and not displaying enough nunbers.

still, this is all really silly especially for our cars with relatively low power... I know what speed all my gears top out at, gear choice, engine sound & speed is all that I need to know how fast I'm going...people who feel they need the speed indicator need to learn more about their engine and gearing.

Nobody is crying, we are just talking about a tech.
Silly is your closure to the others’ opinion.
Out of the forum rules your lack of respect.

huh, you are complaining over something quite insignificant for a cheap low powered sports car lol, now you're upset over my opinion that your complaint is silly welcome to the internet

It shouldn't be bouncing during acceleration.
Even if it does bounce +-1 mph, there are better ways to filter that out digitally than just slowing the refresh rate down to ~2 Hz.

These cars have decent brakes though.

It's almost like everyone is allowed to have an opinion

I personally think a high sampling rate would probably be more annoying then the current one. Ever try reading a high accuracy digital scale with poor filtering for hysteresis and a high sampling rate?

That's why it should simply be a user setting

Sounds like a DIY for one of you CANBUS gurus. It is probably broadcasting all the time, the speedo just only listens for it so often.
