Dust/debris buildup around the vents can in fact hamper circulation, and heat extraction.

I have an original PS2 (day one sales) and a 2nd Gen PS3 (no PS2 compatibility). The PS2 did break under warranty but was repaired and never had another problem. The PS3 has been used by my 3 sons constantly with absolutely no issues.

Our Wii, which is rarely used, broke just after the warranty ended.

Never owned an XBox.

I've never had a failure on my gaming PCs (in twenty years).

I've got a PS3 slim and no problems. With the current generation of video game systems, airflow/cooling seem to be critical.

Don't mean to necro this thread, but I think I jinxed myself. My original PlayStation 3 60 GB with backwards compatibility finally displayed the YLoD last week Had to open it up to get my DVD out.

After some investigation, I found little dust build up on the main board. However, it looks like there was some around the Cell processor, which possibly might have caused it to die (if there is dust buildup on the board, it can capture up moisture, which we all know, is not good with electronics).

Oh yea, and my Halo Reach XBOX 360 edition DVD drive broke on me back in November, so I ended up replacing it with a newer one with Kinect on Black Friday

Yea, I might just stick with PC gaming from here on out seeing as the next gen consoles are using PC parts for the most part.

NES never gave me problems, except having to blow into the cartridges, which we all found out later was actually a terrible thing to do.

Sega Genesis + 32X no issues.

Playstation always worked

Original PS2 eventually lost audio from optical port. Replaced.

First 360 RROD'd on me after a move, and before they extended the warranty. MS wouldn't fix it for free so my manager let me swap it out at work for the newer one that had HDMI. New slim came out and I swapped that at Gamestop with a bunch of other free accessories I'd obtained, while they were doing the old to new promo. It stays in an enclosed TV stand and I've never had an issue with it. Probably going to build a squirrel cage fan into the stand though eventually.

Stuff breaks. It's not only that quality has decreased, but things today are built for performance, not longevity.

I have two desktop computers at home. One mine, and one for my wife. Since the release of the Xbox 360 I've RMA'd an 8800GTS, an 8800GT, and another video card I can't remember (thanks EVGA lifetime warranty!) Had a 680i motherboard eat two sets of ram at stock settings, and another Intel LGA775 motherboard fail completely. A power supply failure killed two HDDs and an optical drive. Thankfully I've had no issues since the rebuilds two years ago, except that I had to replace a five year old Antec PSU that was starting to give out. And it's probably about time I started looking for a replacement for the Corsair that I use.. thankfully psu requirements have dropped drastically.

So hop over that fence all you want, but the grass definitely isn't always going to be greener.

I actually had a "pre launch" 360 (from the Mountain Dew "every 10 minutes" sweepstakes) that finally gave up the ghost after 5 years of hard use. I had to recussitate it a few times, rebuild the DVD-ROM drive motor, replace a fan, etc. After it went belly up, it was replaced with a friend's unit that he rarely used, I think it was rev 2, it was much quieter and it's still going strong today. PS3 slim is about 5 years old now, and still going strong as well. I'm more of a PC gamer, so the consoles only see heavy use when there's an exclusive title I'm interested in.

I've had a PS2 for I don't know how many years and it has been flawless. I've played many games over the years but all I do today, if amd when I play, is Doom and Final Doom.

Went through 3 360s before dedicating my gaming time solely to the PS3. Had a 60GB that YLOD'ed but the slim has been running strong for 5 years. Though I mostly game on the PC, since my PC is ridiculously overspecced and I feel the need to justify it. LOL

My slim ps3 died on me back in March of 2013...(I think I also jinxed myself by posting in this thread last year about never having problems with any consoles)

GT6 might just be able to bring me back to gaming
