Didn't like them at first, thought they had a "squishy" sidewall. Then went plus a few psi all around and 1 set last us the entire season. Over 200+ race miles!

Amazing tire for the 86 chassis and moderate HP

Matt, congrats on the upcoming race at Tsukuba! I love how much support we have with our cars!

What size tire and wheel are you going with the Maxxis RC-1? NASA has a contingency here that'll award handsomely. I've been thinking about going with a 17x8 wheel and the 235 tire.

We started the season on Enkei 17x8 with the 235's. This is when the sidewall wasn't cooperating and air pressure was close to 40psi hot to keep the car from that "driving on Jello" feeling.

A friend sold me some XXR 17x8.25 and the sidewall effect was much better. I personally don't care for the XXR, only because of the 10hole bolt sequence and the need for their specifically tapered lug nuts. (which don't work if you have extended studs anyway....)

We finished on Data R1R's 17x8.5. I personally loved the cornering feel on these BUT that little extra stretch caused us to run out of gear in one section of track.

Now that we know the 8.25-8.5 range is best, I may invest in some lighter forged wheels. But the inexpensive, strong XXR's and Data's served well for testing.

The Enkei's now support our daily 235 PSS's.

Hope this helps

The 17x8 is narrow for the 235 RC1; try it on a 17x9 before committing to an expensive wheel.

We generally run ours on a 17x9, but we'll be testing some prototype 225 RC1 on 17x8.

We've started work on both of the Taiwan Team ACE cars this week.

DD got steel bushings for front LCA's, Whiteline rear bushings and Racer-X rear LCA's.

GP car is on a diet- We never did care for the bolt in cage as our helmets always hit the halo bar. We decided to pull the headliner and side impact SRS and build a cage made from lightweight bike material. We'll keep you posted on how it goes.

Third ACE car will be driven by Kato on Monday at Suzuka to test the new exhaust system and other FT-86 Board supplier parts. We'll let everyone know how it goes.

Happy holidays

Tsukuba photos are in a separate thread. Was a great time and finished 1st in class with 1:05.2

On Monday Arise and ACE went to Suzuka to test out our new 4-2-1 header, new aero bumper, DRL lab radiator with oil cooler and some other board member components.

2:25.6 for the GT86 and 2:23.6 for the S2000.

Problems with the video for the 86 right now...but below is the S2000's run.

Looks like we may head to upstate New York this winter for some ice racing and see how the equipment works in the cold.

Happy Holidays

AT owner here, how well is the automatic tranny in a track setting and what led you to choose AT over manual? At Tsukuba, how much quicker would you be with a shorter final drive gear in the AT?

I'm afraid there are some misunderstandings. One car I race is a "daily driver" automatic 86. We didn't choose the automatic, in Taiwan it was the only thing imported until this year. We have a 5.1 final drive and 1-way locker.

Team ACE cars are an imported 6spd Scion for Taiwan.
For Japan they're a manual 86, manual S2000 and manual RX-8.

The Tsukuba car was a 6spd right-hand-drive 86 with a 4.8FD and 1.5-way locker

In track settings, we have found that the automatic is quicker for rolling starts and up-shifts. I believe this is due only to the torque converter preloading shifts. This is a better question for someone more qualified then me to answer. CSG Mike?

Downshifting in the auto is another matter altogether. You have to wait until the revs are matched and trying to do a 4th gear 7500rpm downshift is impossible. Frustrating at first but logical once you get used to it.

We are extremely pleased with the automatic, we have no plans to do forced induction so the NA power gains can easily be handled. Plus it's really nice in city traffic.

I hope I answered your question somewhere in there....

Take care

So we kicked off the season this past weekend and had some great results.

Thanks to Bill and Zach at Delicious Tuning for cranking it up so much that the first two days of runs were all screwed up. New shift, brake and turn-in points at every corner.

Got it sorted for the final run and ended 4th overall. Lost out to a GT-R on Pirelli slicks, a 2.3L S2000 CL on Yoko A008 and an R8 on Yoko A005. Our Maxxis RC-1's are still holding up!

Counter Space, FT86 speedfactory, Racer-X and ACE Header still there in the background making sure everything's in order. Thanks guys

Also set new track record for NA 86, 3rd fastest 86 in the country (behind HKS factory car and another Vortek supercharger), neither of which are daily drivers...
