Don't let the dealer clean your car; they will fuck up your paint.

Oh yes. 1, they're not detailers, so they're not super well versed in actually cleaning cars. 2, they have no vested interest in doing it right, it's just another chore for them and they don't want to put in the time. 3, they don't clean the rags/towels/whatever they use that scratches your paint all to hell.

Here's one thread. There are a lot more in the Cosmetic Maintenance forum.

Get with Phil @DetailersDomain. He can give you guidance on processes, products, methods, etc... to best take care of your car's finish yourself.

^^^^^^this. theres no need to go t othe dealer and make a fool out of yourslef. just think in your head how it would sound if you took it to them. "hi i brought my car in cause the ac doesnt blow cold when im giving a lot of throttle. once i let off it goes back to being cold"

Normal -- happens to me too. An odd thing is it won't get ice cold unless I drive it hard.

The A/C, apart from the paint, is the one thing that drives me nuts about this car. As near as I can tell, these cars are willing and able to provide refreshing, cold air so long as the outside temperature is below 90 degrees. In Texas, I'm not sure that's good enough.

I actually took my car to the dealer twice for this, the first time they said the refrigerant was low and topped it off, the second time they couldn't find anything wrong and the dealer mechanic told me subaru A/C just isn't very good in general. They did put dye in it so if it leaks, we'll know about it.

If the temperature is above 90 degrees, my experience is that the compressor shuts off if the RPM's go above 4k (which I believe in this car is within the range of normal driving, especially if it's hot, 5k shifts just to get up to the speed limit are common). It also appears to shut off during deceleration and engine braking. The compressor also appears under powered during idle or when the car is stationary. It only seems to work well when the car is moving above 45mph with cruise control on.

Below 90 degrees these effects aren't noticeable, or at least aren't uncomfortable.

I've also experienced stinky A/C since there were 10 miles on the odometer, a problem that has been lessened with the addition of a carbon cabin filter, running it on full with the filter out and spraying compressed air in the intake, and vacuuming the drain tube. I also never run it on recirc if I can help it, the smell comes back very quickly with recirc on, especially if the compressor can't keep up and it starts to blow warm.

Cruise control, RPM, whatever you can think of probably doesn't matter. Once you get up to speed, you have outside air that isn't heat soaked flowing through the condenser.
