Totally agree, I guess I mean the short amount of time some of these people own a car before they trade it. If it’s over 10 years and over 150k, I get why people want new and you got some good use out of the car for your money. But some of these people own a car for 2 years and trade up. To do that for something so similar does not make sense to me.

That definitely does not apply to @Tcoat given he had well into 6 digit miles on his car when he made an informed decision to purchase a second one of the same generation.

Frankly, if he wanted to stay with the Twins, and given what we knew about the timing of the new generation and the small incremental changes, I think he made a good choice.

No I can not say that there is none but the kneejerk reaction to everything is "Oh the owners of the previous are biased and they just don't like the new because of that". I do take it personally since it has been directed at me several times now. I have even been called "dumb" and "not sane" for buying one of the last of the first generation made because I LIKE it. Now I suppose I am just "trying to justify my choice in face of the better car" or some bullshit like that.
There is no hidden reason why some like the old better than the new and the vehement reaction of some of the first gen owners is simply because we Subjectively think the new design sucks balls. We are supposed to keep quiet and let the racer wanttabes fawn all over it without expressing our dislike?

I’m not sure who you think the “racer wannabes” are, but I think we all want the 2nd gen BRZ/86 to succeed. This is a great car that I hope will be around for many more years. Objectively the 2nd gen already seems to improve on several things over the 1st gen. Styling is always divisive, and you will never please everyone. I’m looking forward to driving the 2nd gen and seeing more road tests. I completely understand your choice to get one of the last 1st gen 86’s, it’s such a great car.
The 2nd gen will most likely be a great car also, and will improve on many driving dynamics.

there's like people dying out there cause they choose to be selfish and not care about their neighbor. now that's really something to get mad about!

It's a good looking car, and I prefer it to the first gen. I like the improved gauge cluster, and I like what I'm hearing about the engine. I also don't have an FRS in the garage anymore, and instead I have a spot to fill, and luckily for me, this improved car fits the bill.

Same as the greatest Porsche is always the previous generation (except the 996, nobody likes those). People always bemoan change, but by the time the next change comes along the previous change is the new normal.

If you have to reach to gather up a "down payment" for a used Cayman S, you should not be buying a used Cayman S... A brand fricking new Subaru is by far the better choice! And probably more fun to drive every day. But yeah, if the money isn't in the bank it makes more sense to keep driving the car ya have.

If I have money in the bank and nothing planned for it, I'll probably buy a '23 when they come out. If not I'll keep driving my '17. Either way I still won't miss my '11 Cayman! Much...

I strongly disagree. The greatest Porsche is the one in your own garage. Since I don't have a Porsche in my garage, I think they all suck!

That said, if you like it, get it, it’s your money. But it does not mean it’s a smart decision. Over on Nasioc, there a dudes who have bought 3 different WRXs over the years while I still have my 04. Not all were new, but man all in they are easily over 60k and basically have a similar experience as I do, except I have had no payments for 12 years. But in the end it’s not my money.
Gen 1 cars (2013-2014) will be 9 years old when Gen 2 cars are out. Very possible will have more than 120,000 miles. I wouldn’t call that used up but no spring chicken either.

In the end if someone has the means to buy new cars every two years that’s their business. It puts more affordable late model units out there. And that is good.

That video was the first that my girlfriend has seen the new BRZ. She approves, which is important because it will be replacing our Mazda 3, which is the car she drives to work.
