Earlier this week in another one, the guy's first question was about counting set bits in an integer (i.e. how many set bits is 010010 or whatever). So you have to iterate over each bit, which you do by dividing to get each place, and you do that using logical operators. Well, I forgot that dividing for bit shifting is using ">>" and I just told the guy how I would do it but that I couldn't remember the operator to use because it's been a long time. His response was "eh this is a new grad problem. Anyway let's move on to the next one."

A lot of it is just luck of getting some combination of:

1. a somewhat doable problem that's not extremely simple but not difficult either
2. a problem where it could be tricky but the interviewer doesn't mind providing hints or whatever and does *not* ding you for doing so

I haven't interviewed with a company yet to get that combination this go around. Hopefully soon.

I knew my problem this job search would be the interviews themselves; I've had 0 problems getting companies to talk to me. It's such a crapshoot.

My other issue is that I get severe anxiety leading to it and then when on the call I have basically a panic attack and I don't know what to do for that other than borrowing some prozac from @humfrz.

I'm so sick of working for other people. Just hate the process in general it's almost meaningless. Being self-employed has it's own risks but at least you get to write your own ticket.

You need the opposite of self-employed then. Maybe a state job..

I'll be honest though being a park ranger or something always sounded good to me. Just go get lost in the woods for 9 hours a day.. Well I guess that's a Fed job in most cases.

There's always a way out of it, you just have to be willing to adjust to the lifestyle you can afford with your new income....

One of my local 86 friends is actually a county park ranger. It seems like a mostly fun job.

There are some depressing bits though, like occasionally coming across a dead homeless person or something out in the middle of one of his parks that he patrols, or when he has to help out with missing hikers or whatever.

Yeah every job has it's glitz and glamour... and it's, well why it pays you and you don't pay to be there...

I want to be a police detective in Hallmark Movies and Mystery Land. You never really have to solve a case because there are always good looking women around doing your job for you one of whom you are usually sleeping with.

Is that because 80% of them have to be Santa in at least one Hallmark Christmas movie per year?
