To be clear, my "don't sweat it" was in regard to damaging a wheel in general. It seems to have become a new hobby of mine.

It is difficult to say whether that wheel is okay or not from that angle. If it were me, I'd make sure I had good wheels on the back and replace one of the fronts with a stock wheel or donut until the new one came in. Making sure to only limp the car around town.

If that isn't an option, short of having a professional look at it, I'd roll the car until it was resting on the damaged spot, and then use a spray bottle filled with soapy water on it. If it makes any air bubbles, it is leaking air just under the load of the car and absolutely not safe to drive on.

They sure do. We're going to (finally) be grandparents in a few months, too. A great feeling. Congrats, Humfrz.
Congratulations to YOU.

You may find that being a grandparent is much more fun that being a parent -

I did the soapy water test and no bubbles anywhere. Im still very wary about it.

I reckon it would be OK, if you don't go too fast or go around corners very fast -

What Humfrz said. Again, I personally wouldn't, but I tend to err on the side of caution. Also depends upon the ETA of the new wheel. I still have a few weeks until the wheels I ordered in early June show up.

I'd keep being wary of it. The rock knocked a pretty good chunk out of the rim. Hard to tell what other damage/cracks may be lurking. Depending on how long before you get the new one, I might recommend parking it. I personally wouldn't do that, but I take far too many chances. Regardless, I wouldn't push it. Gentle, around town stuff is it. Just be prepared in case something fails catastrophically.

I was perfectly content with 2g until they capped the data rate to convince people to migrate to 3g.

I've really got no use for more than 3g

The car will be sitting for the week as I wait for the replacement wheel to ship. I’m way too paranoid to drive on it. Thankfully I have the boss lady car while shes out on a conference.
