These engines rev up so fast and the shifts are so fast you don't need to keep the rpms high manually, just stomp the pedal and go.
I ask myself the same question on the rare occasion I track with my GTI with dual-clutch auto. The transmission has an (auto) "S" mode that is completely worthless on the street, but perfect for the track. It basically keeps you in the 5000-7000 RPM band all the time.

And yet I always use the paddle shifts at the track. I guess it's more fun than just leaving it in "S", even though my paddle inputs are completely unnecessary.

I'm saying, if you want a good track time you might as well put it in full auto mode, because you'll never short shift or bounce off the limiter that way.
If you leave it in full auto it'll just upshift as soon as it thinks it needs to. And honestly it's so fast it would probably still hold the slide.

Definitely agree that if you're going for track time, leave it in auto or sport mode unless you're one hell of a driver.

if you are tuned the computer doesn't always know best. Some cars you may need to short shift to land in the fatter part of the torque curve. lots of gtr owners do this for the best 1/4 times. Plus i don't want the computer shifting for me midcorner. its true the shift is so fast it wouldn't upset the car... but 80% throttle in 2nd gear at 7000rpm is going to accelerate different from 3rd gear at 4000. maybe i'm trail braking and want to time my downshift to help rotate the car into the next turn?

The computer can't 'predict' whats coming up ahead. There's a hill just after a stop sign on my way to work. If i put it in auto... the car will go as fast as it can to get into 6th at 40mph then it gets to the hill, i give more throttle to keep the speed up, it realizes it needs more power, and downshifts to 5th. its annoying

With me driving i manually shift up to 5th and just leave it there until i clear the hill. No interruption in smooth acceleration or having the computer try to make up its mind which gear it wants.

plus its just boring driving a car in auto mode lol. Its only good for taking a phone call or eating a sammich

Silver Porsche 991 GT3 RS Listed For $450,000

What do you guys think it will sell for?

From the article:
Porsche 918 owners were the first to be offered the Porsche 991 GT3 RS, while the lucky few who made the cut for the rest of this year’s production run will be waiting until as long as the middle of next year to collect their beloved Porsche GT3 RS.
