Messing with the EQ settings and the sound system is pretty good considering it's an OEM system at this price and this car.

I'm going to add a subwoofer tho, I feel like the stock 8 speakers would sound a lot better if they didn't have so much bass added in.

We had an indepth convo on the new stereo here (link above). I had found by digging through part numbers that there is a difference in the base and limited sound systems - at least by part numbers and manufactures.

I got my Limited today, and I'm happy to do some testing with a premium/base owner if one is in the area.

I know it's been said before, but this entire base vs limited vs premium conversation is absolutely ridiculous due to the naming from Subaru. I pity any new viewer that reads this before getting a firm grasp of the model names yet!

Yea..I've been trying to balance the EQ settings as well. What subwoofer are you looking at? I saw one on the Subaru website that fits into the previous gen. And I have a $500 voucher to be use as well!

The 1st gen sub doesn't work. We are waiting for Subaru to list the new one. Toyota already lists it on their site from the factory so they have to exist.

My other vehicle is a MK7 GTI with the non-premium speakers and they sound
much better in comparison.
Maybe its the additional road noise that's affecting my perception.
Lol that’s me but I don’t have my brz delivered yet I have a base system in the mk7 gti too. I have heard different part numbers for the speakers pioneer vs Panasonic or something you can look up in the parts catalog for each trim. On YT savagegeese said it sounds best if you turn off all the sound enhancements and per others also get a quality sound source. I am curious but I think it should sound ok, I’ll know soon enough I’m going to bring higher quality music on a usb stick for when I pick her up later this month.

I sat in my car for like 2 hours yesterday tinkering with the sound systems. Here are my opinions:
- It's dramatically better than the prior generation sound system.
- Some music/songs sound ok with the virtual assistant feature it has. However, on some music it gets way too abrasive with high-pitched sounds.
- Everyone will end up positioning the sound differently. On the "Neutral" or "Default" settings, I felt like the music was not balanced - all my audio was coming from my left. After I tinkered with it, it's in a good spot for me.

It's not as bad as people are making it out to be, however, if you were accustom to either a 1) fully custom sound system with high and low crossover and dedicated amps -- of course this will sound "bad" or "worse." or, if you 2) came from a vehicle with a Bose, Harmon, or other type of dedicated upgrade system -- yeah those are better too.

It's sufficient for the car. Gets lough enough, and you can tweak the bass / mid / treble, etc.

I wish we had a more granular EQ, like the 2013 headunits.

I just hope the sub is available soon. That should make it sound much better. If not then I will go with a custom sub. I really prefer using something that fits perfectly in the back though.

I'm sure the one on the Toyota configuration will work/fit. It's the same care with same infotainment after all.

Issue is, it'll cost a bunch unjustly.

The GR86 has a factory trunk woofer option. Just waiting for someone to try to fit it on the BRZ before biting the bullet and buying it.

I have never heard a Subaru sound system yet that was more than just OK. Even the top trim one in My wife's Outback sound hollow and twangy.
